National Merit Cutoff Predictions Class of 2017

What happened to Wyoming? Did it go in an underground bunker?

@Mamelot, no we don’t. It can always change, but based on historical performance, unlikely.

@OHToCollege How many NMSF does Walton usually have? And have students always electively taken the PSAT?

I googled … 16 last year. Not looking good for GA!

Oops, I guess my script had a bug. But all it does is make a concordance table. CT was 220 last year - same as TX. My table predicts CT/TX/220 will stay the same.
IOW:
220 (was 220) for Connecticut

I don’t think there’s any reason to make a list with all the states - when there’s no data.

As states come in, we can make a list - but it should only have states that we have data for.

IOW, the current list should be:

@Sorrento Thanks for not forgetting little ole us. Especially those of us who ACTUALLY live in DC and have to compete against the wealthiest and brightest of Maryland and Virginia who count as District students in the eyes of NMSC.

@itsgettingreal17 - according to their (walton high school, GA) website ā€œOver the past five years, Walton has had an average of 21 National Merit Semi-finalists per year.ā€

So the average SI for Walton’s top 100 is 216 and the predicted GA is around 219. I’m starting to think many states are going to be 221+

Walton in GA had 25 two years ago (I have the book from that year).

In past years, this listing has been in Financial Aid & Scholarships/National Merit Scholarships under a heading ***Class of 20xx NMSF/NMF Qualifying Scores. The thread is pinned to the top of the listing and future readers go there to see results. While this thread had been entertaining for the last year or so, it is already so long that people will not know where the results would start, not to mention being in the wrong section. I think the results should be in their own thread in the right section and will move the listing over there. Good luck to everyone! I went through this process for the class of 2014 and am now repeating for the class of 2017.

@18yrcollegemin you’re so right! I’ve been checking and checking that other forum section and happened upon this one today.

@18yrcollegemin This question came up a few pages back and kind of got shut down. I think I’m going to back you on this though. I think there will be a lot of kids who come looking for this information in the next couple of days and I’m all for website organization. I think that once actual results start coming in we should switch to the location where they are commonly found and where newcomers will easily be able to find results. Even the best of forum topics should be allowed to die.

Can this thread be moved there and renamed by a mod leaving a link here like other moved threads?

When the results come in here someone should just start a new thread over there and we can link to that here. No info. will be lost. Kinda like what happened to the old PSAT 2015 thread when this one started.

Update: oops not refreshing fast enough. What @candjsdad and @Dolemite are saying. This thread won’t be relevant once predictions turn into reality.

Could someone clear up a point of confusion for me? Im sorry if I missed this from earlier in this thread. Several articles online say that students moving on in the process (commended or SF) will get a letter in April/May of their Junior year letting them know they are continuing. Did you all get this? Or did it go to the school and perhaps not get passed on? Since my son is over the Commended 209, should we have received a letter last spring?

I started a new thread in the National Merit Scholarships section.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/national-merit-scholarships/1914817-class-of-2017-nmsf-nmf-qualifying-scores.html#latest

This thread is already 376 pages long. It seems way too long to just begin posting results here. The speculation and projections for the new test have been really entertaining, but the actual results really belong in their own thread.

@momof3co your school should have received that letter or, if you homeschool, you as principal should have received it.

@momof3co Your son’s school should have gotten the letter and passed that information along to him.

@momof3co We have not recd any intimation from the school yet…my son is over 209

@candjsdad not all schools pass on the info. Most do not. The purpose of the letter is to check spelling and contact info. etc. for those students so that NMSC has current info.
