I doubt it^^
@spaamie1 make sure to add that Grandma is gravely ill.
@whataboutcollege No letter or book for schools with no qualifiers.
@IABooks, that makes sense! They really shouldnât be sharing the data in The Magic Book before the 14th.
Again, @Tgirlfriend and @IABooks, whatâs in this magic book? Names of all 16K SF? Why the mystery around whatâs in it?
I find it interesting that OH and IL had one point difference under old scoring system but has at least 2 points difference under new system.
@OHToCollege I havenât seen it, so I canât say. :-/
@OHToCollege Here is a description of the âMagic Bookâ from @PAMom21

@OHToCollege, I have The Magic Book for class of 2015. (It was given to me after my son was the only qualifier from his school.) It looks just like page 3 on of this (warning, old data) FL release from last year, except it included the entire country. Mine is 90 pages long! A few pages are general information, but most of it is name, after name, after name. Itâs broken up first by state, then city, then school, then lists all SF in alphabetical order.

@OHToCollege the Magic Book of this year is probably the same one that @PAMom21 has been talking about from a prior year. Its contents will be released on 9/14. Yes, it probably does have the names of all 16K nmsfâs.
Appears that Illinois will hit the highest end of Artâs projection for the state (219) while Florida will be at least one point below the high end of his range (217). DD has 221 here in California which is also one point below the top end of his range. Anyone have any thoughts on California??? Anyone hear anything??
Last year Ohio and Illinois had the same cutoff. But for class of 2015, Illinois was 215 and Ohio was 213. And in 2014, Ohio was 215 and Illinois 216. So there is some precedent for 0-2 point difference with Illinois being higher if there is a difference.
@suzyQ7 But Iâm a proactive parent - DS has already taken the SAT and sent the scores to NM (1500, not bad scores either) and the school would probably know that. Iâm fairly sure that he made SF, a 216 in Utah is higher than anyoneâs predictions, but Iâd really like to know.
@IABooks Thatâs good to know. If I can just get the GC to communicate with me at all I can use that as ammunition. The problem is that no one down there ever answers emails. I was hoping that the new GC would be different but so far all is crickets. I suppose I could go down there and pester people, but I donât want to be âthat momâ just yet. I told DS heâll have to go in and ask around the end of the week if we donât hear anything here.
Is it just me, or is the Magic Book terribly pointless? I mean, what use does a HS have for that information? âOh look, some town in this other state far away had 1 NMSF!â
edit to add: NM Corp could have skipped the book, given the printing/postage costs out as another scholarship, and had this whole thing ready 2 weeks ago.
It wasnât useless for me, that was one of the best gifts my school ever game me, LOL!!! It was doubly nice, as PA doesnât post a massive press release like FL does every year.
@flatKansas Newspapers publish it or find their local cities and publish those parts.
Last yearâs California list: http://www.mercurynews.com/education/ci_28780350/list-california-national-merit-scholar-semifinalists-2015-2016
@spaamie1 You donât have to go down there and pester, you can go down there and chat, sweet talk, smile. Forget email - its always better in person (or on the phone) when you are trying to get someone to do you a favor.
Forget email AND sweet talk. I say go on a stealth mission, and steal the book. The school will likely think they just lost it. They lost my sonâs finalist certificate all on their own, so Iâm quite certain they wonât be suspicious of any foul play.
speaking of grandma - Poor grandma were used too many times by employees in India whenever a leave is needed to visit family in other states
Someone reported they made it with a 215 in Alabama, according to Art
Where are all the Texas people? Iâm surprised we donât have more results from that state, since its so big and we had a lot of Texas posters. It would be great if we could get a bottom on Texas.
