National Merit Cutoff Predictions Class of 2017

I just mean SI

Crossing my fingers with a 220 in NY

Any update on state of Missouri cut-off?
Please and thanks.

My D has a 219

@momof3co I scored a 224 so I’m pretty confident. At this point I’m just waiting for people to start receiving scores in CO so I can hear from my GC. Good luck to your kid!

So, just to point out that we really only have 5 really useful nuggets of information: (1) Every score reported at or aboe the high end of Art’s predictions has qualified for NMSF. But those scores don’t really help identify the cutoff. So if we accept that people at/above the high end of Art’s predictions are pretty likely to be shoo-ins (not a given, but I’d be willing to bet on it), then the other 4 useful data points we have are: Alabama (<=215), FL (<=217), KY(<=215) and IL (=219). We’re all jittery about IL being at the high end of Art’s range, and certainly it does seem foreboding, but every state is really independent of the others … AL, FL, and KY so far are all 1 point below Art’s high end. Those may be the cutoffs, but we don’t know because we haven’t had anyone below them report back. For our situation in MD, with a 220 and MD’s range being 218-222, I would have been much happier to see those more informative scores be a point lower. As it is right now, I’m guessing MD ends up at 221 and she misses it by a point. But I have to keep remembering that every state is independent from the others, and trends may or may not hold this year. That might mean MD ends up at 223 … or maybe it ends up at 218. We really don’t know anything yet, even though we’re all grasping at any info and trying to read the tea leaves. Best to just chill and wait…

Does anyone have data from Mississippi? I’m on the border with a 213.

Everything we know is here:

Are the posters here calculating their selection indexes with the original selection index (the one that was released with PSAT scores) or with the selection index from the new concordance tables (the ones from May 2016)?

Any news for Louisiana?

@tp2000 I’m so sorry, but I have no idea what you’re talking about. Will you please explain? I don’t know anything about a new concordance table. I have been going by the number that was given with his original PSAT.

@oliver17 stop posting on the other thread. That thread is FOR SCORES ONLY.

The selection indexes on this table are dramatically lower than those given with the PSAT, so I am asking now because I am a junior and I want to know which source to use to predict what I will need to get on my PSAT this year.

@MSBlues I’ve been watching for days, and absolutely no confirming scores for MS so far.

We are in Mississippi, also. No word from our school today. When DD(12) was Semifinalist, our school let us know before the end of August so that we could get started on the application and essay. I will post as soon as I hear something.

This discussion was created from comments split from: ***Class of 2017 NMSF/NMF Qualifying Scores.

@MSBlues I’d bet you two to one that your 213 will make it in Mississippi. I think 213 will be the cutoff, maybe 212. Sadly, my son has a 211. One of the assistant principals has promised to let him know whether he made it or not as soon as the information reaches the school, and I will post it as soon as I hear. I would expect it tomorrow.

MN confirm 222.

Art just confirmed 223 as the highest cutoff. Must be for DC/NJ.

The question remains then whether MA, CA and MD cutoff is 221 or 222. It just might turn out that MA cutoff is 222 while cutoff for CA and MD is 221. Or CA might be 222 also. But I have a feeling MA cutoff will be higher than CA cutoff.
