National Merit Cutoff Predictions Class of 2017

I was calling it NMSC’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

@kikidee9 . . . embargo is typically used more in the political setting when a news agency agrees to withhold information from the public pending a formal announcement. (I think)

222 SSI in CA confirming NMSF status. We’re a school that usually gets 20+ NSMF and only 4 people got NMSF this year. Scary.

CB uses the word “embargo” in its reports:

Art says at the end part of the comments section of his blog that he has now confirmed CA cutoff is 221. Sorry to all CA people who had 220. It appears most of high scoring states will have ODD cutoff numbers. I guessed long time ago that based on my anecdotal evidence I believed CA cutoff would be 221 just because my kid said there are many kids with 220 score.

School in Reno, Nevada announced three semifinalists on Facebook yesterday.

I flat out asked our principal tonight about NMSF status because DD’s GC will be going on maternity leave so they want all counselor Rec requests to her by 9/15. I told her that we know she doesn’t tell students until the media release date. I told her that I know that’s not what the instructions are but that about half of principals do what she does and the other half tell their students without a public announcement. I told her that we are 99.9% sure of DD’s status thanks to this site. And I told her that DD’s final college list and counselor recs will be dependent on getting official word. The woman still wouldn’t tell us. She said it is “in the vault” until that date she is allowed to announce. Too bad that her GC’s leave is adversely affecting my DD’s application process. SMH. I really don’t like that woman.

Ugh my son missed by one point in Texas at a 219.

Art just called the following states:

DC, MA, NJ – 222
CA, VA – 221
TX – 220

Extremely anxious with a 220 SI in MD

@disshar My D came home with a letter from NMSC that was sent to her public school. It says “except for your family and your high school principal, this info is confidential until Wednesday, Sept 14.” To me that seems pretty clear that they can tell student and family now. It also has a Web address and codes to start the next step in the process, all of which has to be transmitted by Oct 12. If your principal delays, his or her students wil lose 2 weeks in an already short 6 week process. Maybe he or she needs to re-read the letter!

@fallfever So sorry!

Thanks. My two older ones were SF and it really made no difference. Of course, that depends on the schools you choose. No big deal. Still proud.

220 in TX makes to Semifinalist?

so sorry @fallfever.

Has anyone reported from Tennessee other than the kid with a 218?

@tx1707 yes. Congrats!

I have a feeling MD cutoff will be 220.
