National Merit Cutoff Predictions Class of 2017

I remember a long thread that was specifically about Texas. Don’t think too many expected the cutoff to be as high as 220. Pretty stunning.

@cowboy1999 Did you see that TX cutoff is confirmed at 220 by Art at Compass? Isn’t that your child’s score? Congrats!!!

@mnpapa but not too surprising given information since Monday. The TX thread was based on the Testmasters data which, although only a point off, missed the mark. But not as much as their other projections! MN was supposed to be a 215 and the highest cutoff 220!

You have cut off for Minnesota? 220? Really?

@TheSopranosMom . Thank you , Just noticed.

@slaudsmom Thanks for posting. She won’t budge. I don’t even think she has read the student letter. She just tucks it away. I will be so glad to be done with her.

@rooster2017 all anyone knows about Minnesota is that it is greater than 216 according to Art at Compass Prep

@disshar - guessing that you’ll find out first here…what state?

@rooster2017 don’t scare me like that! @-) :open_mouth:

@thinmints I actually already know from here (NC) but we have some paperwork to fill out which means needing her confirmation.

@disshar - oh…congrats and sorry that you have to deal with such an immovable object

@disshar others will be posting the essay prompt and SAT confirmation score fairly soon. It’s still WAY early in the process! The rest of the application should be pretty easy to complete.

@disshar take it up the chain. Is calling the superintendent an option??

@Mamelot , did not mean to scare you-:slight_smile: a quick glance at your post almost made me falling off the chair!

Thanks everyone! @mnpapa29 I am not sure. He is brand new. And we are waiting on her early graduation approval, so trying to not make waves with her. She likes to be schmoozed.

@disshar could you ask one of the homeschooler parents to give you a (suitably redacted) copy of the letter, so you can take it to her and show her (the verbage that she refuses to read)?

@flatKansas I honestly don’t think she would care. I have never encountered an administrator quite like her.

We are in Texas at 222 and hope to be in. Will someone explain in simple terms what happens next. Sorry for my ignorance

Here is how the procedure went a few years ago. The school counselor prints out the congratulatory letter and gives it to the student. The student uses the login info contained in the letter to get access to the online application form and instructions. The student finds someone to write a letter of recommendation. The student completes his portion of the application, including the essay, and submits it to the school. The student informs the counselor of any outside courses they have taken and orders transcripts for those courses to be sent to National Merit. The student has their SAT scores sent to National Merit (or signs up to take it, if they haven’t already.) The counselor fills in their portion of the application, including info from the student’s transcript, and makes sure the letter of recommendation has been filled in, and then submits it to National Merit by the deadline. Sometimes the school will request and be granted an extension of the deadline.

If TN is 218 while Florida is only 217, I might have some questions??? We struggle to even get our kids to take the PSAT…I can’t imagine our cutoff would now be that high.
