National Merit Cutoff Predictions Class of 2017

No, @CGlynn, you do not need to take the essay portion. It is not including in factoring the confirming SAT Selection Index.

Our son missed the cutoff by 1 point, He scored 220 for CA Cutoff of 221.Luckily he was least upset. His ACT result came out and he scored 36, his first attempt! Last year only 1598 students scored perfect 36 out of 1.9 million. This is 10X more rare than NMSF. So any parent, who missed NMSF by 1 point or 20 point, it shows our kid can still do wonder just 6 month later or may be 6 year later or at some point later
Congratulations to all the NMSF.

@Sorrento – Thanks! Interesting that the papers and the school districts seem to put out less and less information about the results of this competition. Last year MCPS put out all the data, like FCPS did across the river. This year, just this generic total and an opaque list of schools (though they do list the totals for three schools).

Has the Massachussetts results been posted? My daughter has friends there that she would like to look up.

@nordic1 You’re welcome! and I have more good news
Some kind local parent called MCPS, and the omission of the whole list with names was just an oversight. Check that same link again, and you’ll see all the info. In fact, that list has all the Maryland semifinalists in it.

If your school hasn’t notified you yet, call National Merit to confirm that you are a semi-finalist. I had to do this today because my son still hadn’t heard anything from the school. Then I called the school to ask that they give my son a copy of the letter they should have received at the end of August, so he can begin his application for finalist. I found out that the school had no idea that he was a semi-finalist. The school told me they had received a letter today listing all the commended students (which they informed me he wasn’t on) and seemed a bit confused because they said they hadn’t received a letter about semi-finalists (I guess they weren’t expecting one, I guess it got lost ;-). If I wasn’t lurking on this board, I wouldn’t have known that he was a semi-finalist because it appears that it wasn’t even on the schools radar. Thank you for posting all the qualifying scores! After I explained that I knew what I was talking about because I called National Merit myself, I gave them NM’s phone number and told them to call themselves and get the info so my son can start the application process and make the deadline in 3 weeks. They finally called me back and said they were expecting the fax today and will talk to my son tomorrow.

By the way, I am from NJ and the list of semi-finalists that was posted here are only central NJ students. I have been searching for a state list for NJ (I am in northern NJ)j and haven’t found one yet.

The list for Maryland was in a link at the end of the link you had for MCPS. I’m a Springbrook Grad so I had to look. My D is a semifinalist in NC this year. But the school still hasn’t given her any thing. Just seen it on social media in a tweet from the school district and principal.

I’m wondering how many don’t progress to finalist because their schools are completely clueless.

Finally got the letter from the school today. Most of the seniors in his PE class got it. Kind of funny to read the letter and see the August 23 date and the mention to keep it private until the Sept 14 announcement. Most kids knew why they were being called into the office based on who else was also called in, but some didn’t even know what NM was.

I have PA as a pdf - pm me if you can post it via scribd or whatever

If anyone prefers the California list as a pdf (the official NMSC release), I found it here:

Not sure how long the link will be good since it’s a school site.

Here’s the PA list, compliments of @SpikeyMike13

Anyone have washington state list, please?

Someone mentioned this article may be useful.http://in.reuters.com/article/uk-college-sat-redesign-specialreport-idINKCN11R1V6 Why some kids do better on the ACT.

New Mexico:

Anybody have Massachusetts?

It is an embarrassment for Georgia and its largest newspaper that neither the Georgia Department of Education nor the Atlanta Journal-Constitution sees fit to publish the list of National Merit Semifinalists for the second year in a row. And where is Georgia in terms of educational achievement now?

CAN ANYONE HELP ME!!! I was trying to login to osa.nationalmerit.org. It’s been a week or so so I didn’t remember my username at first. Then I couldn’t remember my password. I guess I tried it too many times because the account is locked out now. HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO ANYONE??? I am so so so worried. Has this happened to anyone else :frowning: ahhh

You are not going to be the first this has happened to. There must be a link you can hit or a phone number to call listed somewhere on the website. Once you do that, you’ll be given a temporary password. No biggie.
