NESCAC Spoken Here:

1-1 after two periods, second period was all Hamilton, that’s why they play the game! https://www.ncaa.com/game/6538074

Edited: Hamilton wins 2-1 in OT with a freshman goal! Post-game, one of the commentators, after saying sort-of derisively “out of the NESCAC,” mentions a few minutes later that he was rejected from Hamilton.

Sports analysts may note that the 30-win Statesmen weren’t able to score a full-strength goal against the Continentals.

Bates joins the NESCAC record apps parade, highest number of apps ever at 12k. Previous high was 10k two years ago.

I haven’t kept track of news from the other NESCACs, but a 24% increase from the previous year is quite notable.

My understanding is that Wesleyan has been at or near its record of 15,000 applications for several years in a row now. They refer to the period between now and late April as their “yield push”, or the process of competing for deposits from cross-admits with its overlaps.

Looks like Bates has joined Colby in eliminating application fees for all applicants.

Ahh, this would explain/at least partially explain the large increase this year in apps.

We’re headed back to Wesleyan this weekend for their admitted students day on Monday! S26 is already committed (ED2 admit) but wants to see it again before move in day. We are staying in Hartford. We are looking forward to it. I haven’t seen an agenda for the day but hoping S26 gets a chance to meet people, sit in on classes, maybe see an example of a freshman dorm. We are eating at Usdan for lunch, and likely Middletown for dinner. Gotta go find the Middletown food recommendations thread from last year

Wesleyan is doing something new this year (or maybe these last couple years.) Instead of holding one big, admitted students week, they have split them into - I believe - four separate weeks. The idea is to concentrate activities for a smaller number of people. Check and see whether your child has been assigned a particular student panel (I could be wrong, but that was one of my takeaways from a recent trip.)

Wesleyan also doesn’t require application fee. Anyone who applies for financial aid is automatically granted a waiver.

Bowdoin waves the application fee for anyone who applies for financial aid, first-generation, veterans, and some others in specific outreach programs.

Connecticut College also does not require an application fee…
