NESCAC Spoken Here:

Here is a rare one for the NESCAC database: correcting a NESCAC rumor.

Anna Kendrick did not attend Bates College. It appears to be a widely held view amongst Kendrick fans. She grew up in Maine, attended Deerling HS in Portland, but did not attend Bates (or any other NESCAC).

Myth:

vs.

Reality:

Easy to see how something like that has staying power; Kendrick has an off-beat, quirky personae which would resonate with a lot of Bates alum. Think, Lisa Kudrow (Vassar) meets Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Northwestern, but her son went to Wesleyan.)

Exactly. When one of my kids [inaccurately] pointed out that Kendrick attended Bates, I thought, “yeah, that makes sense.”

ChatGPT isn’t fooled about Anna Kendrick.

Random question as second semester starts up next week – is there any snow on the ground at any of the NESCAC schools? Just curious! (My student has been studying abroad this past semester…). Seems like a mostly dry winter so far.

Colby’s insta shows snow on the ground. Not up to the windows or anything, but definitely white stuff!

There’s plenty of white stuff at the Middlebury Snow Bowl:

Thanks! ABC-Ch 8 just did a news story on southern Maine (Bates/Bowdoin area) – “Portland Snow Drought: 2020-2024.” They said the last 5 winters have been below average for typical snow by 1-3 feet depending on the year. Nothing in forecast for the first half of January so far this year. I’m sure they will get some by end of month though…just a little less than normal I think.

It really is unreal about Alex Kemp. Great kid, so much promise and a bright future. Just so tragic.

As a NJ and NESCAC XC mom, I’m heartbroken for his family and friends.

What a heartbreaking tragedy. Hits close to home as I’m a Williams alum (and I remember taking day trips skiing during Winter Study), but just sad for any untimely death.

It’s been cold this past week for sure! Not a lot of snow, just a little here and there, but definitely cold. It will be interesting to see where this winter falls – it might be late January until the next storm hits…
