New American Idol thread

Good theme for Adam and Alison, maybe not so good for Kris and Danny.

I think Adam will get sent home next week. I’m disappointed that America still doesn’t seem to have room for a wild child, even such a talented one. Oh well, at least I’ll get 2 more itunes downloads out of it :).

And if he has to leave the competition anyway, I’m kind of hoping he just goes all out bat #### crazy and really puts on a show. At least he’d go out in style!

Oh I hope not. I think a return to his rocker edge may keep him in. Plus, his bottom two placement may make his fans exercise their fingers and vote. I know I will.

I have heard talk along similar lines to what blankmind is saying: America isn’t ready for a performer like Adam. I hope it’s not true.

I’m with you, curious77. I expect indignant Adam fans to come out in droves next week.

Adam can’t help but put on a show! That talented wild child was born to entertain.

Regardless of what happens, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Adam.

I heard on the radio about a fellow to voted three times for one contestant. If you call three time for for three different contestants that seems ok to me. But if you call three times for the same person, is that ethical? I realize a lot of people are doing this, but if a lot of people were jumping off a cliff, I wouldn’t jump. So what do you think? Is it ethical or unethical to vote more than once for the same contestant on the same night?

I have to say I’m really upset with how they treated Adam last night. He has never been anything but humble, and has always put 110% of himself into every performance. So what does the show do? They set it up to humiliate him with that whole choose a group thing. So cruel. When Adam does finally go home, I will never watch that show again.

American Idol, you are dead to me.

Razorsharp, you can vote as many times as you want. The way it is set up, if you only vote once, you might as well not bother. There was a 2,000 person voting party for one of the contestants, where everyone just kept voting straight for the whole 2 hours. Wish I could get 2,000 people together to vote for Adam!

razorsharp - I never thought that there was a problem in voting numerous times for the same person.

I also hated the way they made Adam choose - very tacky.

I don’t think it’s a question of ethics. It’s how the show has it set up. You are able to vote as many times as you want for whomever you want. I’ve seen kids interviewed who have voted hundreds of times for the same contestant. You can bet that there weren’t 47 million different people voting Tuesday night!

They have utilized that terrible ‘choosing’ situation in previous seasons. I agree that it’s tacky. There is much about Idol that is tacky.

I have voted repeatedly on occasion. Never even entered my mine that there was anything wrong with it. They set it up so people can vote over and over again and/or vote for multiple contestants. Now if the show said to only vote once, I would only vote once. But they are obviously after those big numbers – e.g. 47 million.

A heads up:

Adam Lambert’s studio recording of “Feeling Good” is well worth a listen. You can download it from iTunes or do a Google search for:

YouTube Feeling Good ( Studio Version ) - Adam Lambert

Whoa! InterestedDad is right. This is a beautiful vocal performance IMO:

My favorite is Mad World. I love the technique demonstrated in that song - he can move so effortlessly from chest to head voice and back and forth without any struggle. He’s like a male Whitney Houston when Whitney could sing.

^ yes before Booby Brown and crack.
Is there a link to the studio version of Mad World? I agree that is an amazing performance. I would also add his articulation of the lyrics which are dense, complex and kinda circle around.
As for multiple votes, that is the AI way. Some of these people have dialing robots on there computers. I just use my redial about 4 times or so and then get bored. I think they should switch to online voting that will only allow one vote for each person. But since they don’t , vote as many times as you feel like for your favorite, since the person down the road is doing that.

curious77, the same link had the studio version of Mad World in the related links. I just loved both. He is so talented it won’t really matter how he does in the end. Might be better if he doesn’t win. He won’t have to sell his soul to the AI machine.

Based on your comments it would appear there is no ethical problem with voting more than once for the same contestant. Thus, I will start voting and voting BIG. If the number of votes goes from 47 million to 48 million, you will know I voted one million time for Adam Lambert. :)

razorsharp, good for you! I will support you vicariously since I can’t vote from
Canada. At least, I don’t think I can. I actually have never tried. Maybe I’ll try it next week!

Yay razorsharp! CC Parents for Adam!!

(And yes, I am overly obsessed for some strange reason)

I’m with you, razorsharp. And I’m recruiting my D, who will have her last two exams that day, to help.

Was just listening to the studio vesrions of several of the songs. I am ready to buy his stuff now. Haven’t felt that way in a while. I have never voted before. Think I will change that too.

Well, someone here has to take the anti-Adam side, so here I go (ducking). My favorites on Idol over the years have been the ones with outstanding and unique voices–Kelly and Fantasia being the two best examples. When I listen to the studio versions of Adam’s songs, I find the singing very ordinary. He’s all about visual presentation, and that’s certainly an huge element of being a pop star (Lady Gaga, anyone?), but as a singer, he leaves me cold. And when it comes to that visual presentation, I find that Adam’s wears thin quickly. With a child involved in musical theater at school and at camp (and soon to be at college), I’ve met lots and lots of Adams over the years–the flamboyant gay musical theater boy is a stereotype, and while it may be new and exciting on the Idol stage, it’s pretty old stuff to many. That said, I have to give him props for throwing his hat into the Idol ring–it was a smart career move for a road show understudy.

The singer who most intrigues me this year is Alison. I think she needs a little seasoning, and some vocal training to be sure she doesn’t blow out her voice, but she’s quite special.
