I hate looking for all the features that used to be on the top left that are now on the bottom right!

I hate even more how when you type in an address, a really big graphic thing pops up on the top left and obscures a big portion of the map. You can click off the photo, but it still obscures too much of the map.

Combine this with the really annoying new Apple mouse and all my fingers have to do is have a strong pulse and the map zooms in an out wildly.

Thanks, Romani! Was wondering why I was having so much trouble with google maps. Didn’t realize it was from the update. Will try too see if your solution helps me move forward. I did love how easy the old version was to use!

So glad to read this discussion thread. I thought I was the only one having trouble (well, hating it really!) with the new version of Google maps. It is awful!! What were they thinking??!!! Even my husband the IT geek finds it awkward to work with.
Thanks for the link romani - I’m off to try it now. I hope I can revert back.

I’m getting used to it. It came to my phone first and so I have had to adjust to it there. I find with new stuff - CC excluded - I usually have an adjustment period then come to enjoy new features.

I’ve actually liked all of google maps’ updates on my phone until this newest system (or perhaps second newest system?)
It used to be that you would type in the address and then it would give you the option of bike, car, etc. Now you have to do the address, do directions for whatever mode of transportation you used last, and then you can change it. I dislike that because I’m constantly changing modes of transportation.

Hm, this is interesting. I just tried it again and it looks like the old search can come back (typing in “smoothies” for example will give you the list of places… it wasn’t before). That was my major gripe with it. I don’t like the new huge map but I can get used to that.

So far I’m okay with it. I think the street views are coming up higher resolution which is good for me as I sometimes use them when I need to go to zoning and haven’t taken enough pictures myself. The main thing I want is for it to remember my home address when I ask for directions without having to actually sign in. It seemed to be doing that.

IMO, Google has followed the epidemic of unneeded updates that seems to be spreading like a wildfire. When techies run marketing, stuff like this happens. No user input is needed, because as they teach in tech marketing, the user does not know what s/he wants. This is not the situation! I’m sick of the overused Model T example.

Ha! I just had my first new Google Maps experience. Gads. What a disappointment. The old version had a print button, and while I had my gripes about it at least it gave you a map that was usually good enough. Today I could not find the printer icon, googled the problem and was told to do Control-P, which yielded essentially nothing printed on a wasted sheet of paper. Jeez. So, since Google Maps apparently wants us to move on to a working program, which is the best?
