New Google Maps--Opinions

I’m a frequent Google Maps user, especially for trip planning or when in a new place. I LOVED the easy search nearby feature on the old Google Maps. When on a trip I could quickly find the nearest pharmacy or coffee shop. No more easy searches on Google Maps.

The entire site seems less user friendly. Other thoughts?

Are you speaking of the web page or the app?

I tried it the other day and was completely frustrated. Tried it again this morning and still way too much going on. All the new features are prob great, but I just wantI to enter an address and get directions.

I am so glad you asked!!! Because Google never asked. I HATE it! Not only is it hard to use, it is extremely slow. I don’t understand how a smart company like google makes such a dumb move.

I use Google maps a lot and I despise the new format. I find it very difficult to use. Old version provided ridiculously unnecessary steps (distance driven on exit ramp) but new version has eliminated useful steps.

Twice I have been asked for feedback while using Google maps and I promptly replied that it was awful. My son is still able to use old version while in Firefox so perhaps I will have to open Firefox just to use Google maps. Safari definitely uses new version.

There are a number of changes. I think it is a lot prettier but actually I preferred the version from a year or so ago.

At least the change is google maps is not as bad as the change of this forum’s appearance and functionality.

I hate it. It doesn’t make ANY sense. The most frustrating thing is not being able to easily switch between maps & search like you used to be able to.

Luckily, unlike the much-hated new CC, google gives us the option to go back to what WORKS: <a href=“Get started with Google Maps - Android - Google Maps Help”>Get started with Google Maps - Android - Google Maps Help;

ETA: Actually, it looks like that option won’t be around forever so enjoy it while it lasts!

Thank you for that Romani! Let’s hope it lasts. They give you another opportunity to provide feedback when requesting the change to old format. They should allow fill in the blank!

I hated the new version, too, when it came out. I found out that I could revert to the old version and did so promptly. It’s so much more user-friendly. I hope they don’t force me to change soon! :open_mouth:

Romani solves problem! Yea!

Help! I do not get the question mark on my screen, so based on Romani’s link I cannot click to have my headache removed. Has anyone with Safari been able to revert to the old google maps?

I need it in Safari too. New version got us lost the other night. They put 2 exit ramps in the same instruction and we took the wrong one. Then they would not come up with the right destination when entered. So frustrated. Had not realized there was a new version. Just thought I was being klutzy.

I was able to revert to old version in Safari using Romani’s directions. Dead easy, and the old format is still with me today after having shut down computer yesterday.

Glad I could be of help

Interestingly enough, if you type in “new google maps” on google, the first autocompletion is “sucks” lol

I’m so tired of company “updating” things and making them worse! We just dealt with this at work entering contracts into our computer system. What used to be relatively easy now makes us jump through all sorts of hoops!

I have had so much trouble with the new Google Maps. Hopefully I can figure out how to revert back…

hops, did you see the link I posted a few posts up? Or is that not working for you?

It keeps trying to update on my phone. I keep saying no.

Happy girl now! I finally found the “question mark” on the bottom of the maps page. It was a bit camouflaged on my screen. (though it took some time to come back and post because I was once again LOGGED off the forum)

Thanks for the link  I knew I could not be the only one that disliked the new google maps. I’ve successfully gone to google maps in Firefox, Safari and Chrome. Word of advice though, at the top of the screen is a pop-up that says, “You have switched back to classic Google Maps for this session. Remember this choice for next time?Yes Dismiss” I checked of Yes.

It worked on my PC running Windows 8. But I couldn’t get the instructions to work right on the MacBook. Google has been funny on my MacBook the last few days in general…

hops_scout, did u find the question mark?
