New Jeopardy host preference? / Jeopardy updates

DD wagering certainly involves statistics, but it’s not playing to win if you don’t also take into account your own knowledge in the category. If a contestant hits a DD in a category in which they know they have little hope, staying alive for FJ, where strange shifts are known to occur, could be their best move.

Contestants are contractually obligated to try to win, and betting conservatively on a DD is an acceptable way to do that- even if it doesn’t bring the drama for viewers.

By only letting winners keep what they earn, players are forced to play to win. Maybe 1K or 2K is enough for some?

I don’t think unease with a category causes as much ultra-conservative betting as lack of nerve does. It takes more than just knowing a lot of stuff to be a top Jeopardy player, doesn’t it? Clicker speed/skill, strategic betting, and guts.

We can have different opinions, right?

Okay, another thought on the pauses. I still don’t know why she does and Ken doesn’t…or actually he does, but he fills the silence with “uuuhhhhh…”, I think, but they surely must be seeing the answer electronically on a screen on the podium. As someone said, looking to the judge if not a precise match.

had time to go to the bathroom awaiting Mayim’s confirmation of Dizzy Gillespie. I disagree that her delays are for ‘effect’. She’s just slow, perhaps awaiting confirmation in her ear wig?

At one point the other night, the pause was so long that the contestant started to clarify their answer, assuming it was not completely correct. Mayim talked over the contestant to rule it was correct. You gotta let them know ASAP if they are correct, as another contestant may be waiting to answer, and to keep the game moving.

My daughter is funny in that in her mind, it is a failure of the 3 contestants if time runs out before all clues have been revealed!

I’m at a loss to explain that one. It was the obvious correct response and no dramatic effect was warranted

I think it was because it was pronounced like “Jillespie” instead of “Gillespie” that threw her.

I didn’t notice that. Then you’re probably correct coming off the heels of the Solzhenitsyn ruling this week. For the record, I thought Hannah’s response should have been accepted, although it made no difference in the end.

But then, I would have answered, “What is a dee-luxe apartment in the sky-y-y?” for the Jefferson’s clue.:rofl:

I agree with you on the Solzhenitsyn pronunciation. That stumped me. The rules aren’t always consistent. But then, I guess people complain about inconsistent moderation on CC, too.

Never. :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Interesting situation – it is a WGA show but all the writing for the season has been completed.

I think many Screen Actors Guild (SAG) members are picketing with WGA. Mayim must be a SAG member - but not sure about Ken.

Well, I’m happy that Ken will be hosting in her place.

I thought FJ was ridiculously easy today.

I thought of you with Kennebunkport

I’m enjoying the Masters tournament and like all 6 contestants. But, surprised some just don’t seem to be that competitive this time around. The strongest players this time so far seem obvious, at least to me. Anybody have a clear favorite?

“Keep it in your pants, Ken.” That James!

Yes I’m surprised Amy isn’t doing better. I think James will win. I love it when he goes into his high speed mode.

Also surprised that Matt is not doing better.

All 6 contestants seem relaxed in this tournament.

Matt and Mattea did poorly the first night but then won the second night.

Matt and Amy seem to be trying to replicate James’ betting strategy. Sometimes successfully, sometimes not. They may have to do that to beat James.
