Can I just say how much I like Sam? He’ll never win the tournament but he’s smart, funny, and doesn’t take himself too seriously.

I don’t know how much time the others have been able to dedicate to practice, but Matt’s post-doc life doesn’t allow him the flexibility to take time off that his final PhD year did.

I like the outfits Amy and Mattea have been wearing (yes, sexist of me to only notice the women’s outfits). Amazing what winning $1M will do for your wardrobe.
Matt wore a very sharp-looking suit one night.
For the most part, the Masters has been amazing, the competition breathtaking. Two peripheral things I loved: Matt acknowledging James’s influence on strategy, and James talking about bridge as his passion. He posted on a bridge site today, adding some additional experts that he didn’t have time to thank, and describing the "character and camaraderie"he enjoys about fellow players.

Several times a week I look at the contestants and ask, “Do you own a mirror?” as it doesn’t look like they had any idea that they need to brush their hair or not wear THAT shirt.
I’m fine with James wearing one of 3 sweaters he rotates

Mayim has had some nice outfits and hairstyles recently. 
I’m glad she’s apparently getting some assistance. I’m not criticizing her - she reminds me a lot of myself! I am so clueless.

I actually think most contestants usually look fine and like they probably look more like in real life, instead of getting all dolled up for the cameras!

There are hair and makeup professionals behind the scenes for the contestants! And sometimes, not often, wardrobe steps in with an alternative tie, top, what have you. So you’re not seeing the result of only the contestants’ efforts, as “natural” as the looks may seem (for better or worse).

It’s more like Mayim is accepting the “assistance” now, as opposed to last year she preferred her own styles.

I’m not saying the contestants don’t look natural, but question the stripes, weird necklines, colors that blend into the background.
James’ sweaters are not too much, not too color washed, they just aren’t remarkable. If he had won 5 games and left, no one would be able to tell you what he wore.
Sure! “Natural” was shorthand for the presumed lack of consideration for hair and wardrobe you mentioned. Obviously it wasn’t a successful word choice 
I meant to point out that there is in fact quite a bit of both personal and professional consideration that goes into those looks, though it may seem to you that they aren’t taking any care.
Someone like Holzhauer, who conforms to the limited sartorial expression of male business casual dress code, obviously draws far less attention. But, that’s not everyone’s style, and I appreciate the diversity.

Wow, fascinating that they put Ben up against Hannah. And he blew her away! I was surprised it was that one-sided. It will be interesting to see how long he lasts.

It wasn’t designed deliberately. Ben was already announced as returning 5/15, with one of his opponents being whoever was the returning champion.
But yes, I was surprised by the blowout

I wasn’t surprised. Ben was/is very good. He bets wildly even when he doesn’t have to so he gets a lot of money quickly (and that could be the death of him too) and then has more to bet on the later found DDs or FJ. Hannah was strong, but she missed a lot of types of questions.
I’m always amazed when I know several of the questions that all the contestants missed, and that happened several times with Hannah. I’m not that good so figure ONE of the three should get the ones I know.

Sorry if this has been discussed before… But when was/is the taping of Jeopardy Masters? Is it in real time (ie, not live, but not months ago either)? I ask in light of the recent news stories about Andrew’s newborn son, and the death of Mattea’s father.
I had read on Monday about the sudden death of Mattea’s dad on May 2, but didn’t post about it at the time. Very sad. I believe the final tapings were May 2 and 3rd. I think only the final 3 would have taped on May 3. Not sure whether or not Mattea made the final 3. It seems to be between Mattea and Matt for that 3rd slot, depending on how things go next week.
I hope she did not have to drop out because of this. She is only in her 20’s , so young to lose her father. And he was only in his 50’s.

I thought I read that there were some “unexpected delays” in taping so maybe those were the reasons.
