Mail biter last night but he came through.
The meaning of ‘Jeopardy!’ in a post-truth America
“Jeopardy!” has been on the air and wildly popular for 60 years. What makes it endure, and what does that say about American culture? Contributing columnist Amanda Ripley talks to Alexandra Petri, Drew Goins and Ryan Vogt — Post Opinions staffers who’ve been contestants on the show — about its staying power, and if “Jeopardy!” can still bring Americans together.

(I just read the transcript.)
I am feeling very intelligent today! I knew the FJ answers the past two nights and none of the three contestants did. It was “European Union” on Tuesday and “Pathfinder” last night.
It makes up for those nights when all three contestants know the FJ answer and I don’t have a clue.
Did y’all catch that plug for one of the prez candidates by the guy in the middle? Yikes.
I thought he was almost making fun of him, saying “he paid his bills, as far as I know.” Either way, too political.
I didn’t consider it political. He commented on a famous person he once represented, making a harmless joke. I highly doubt his comment will sway anyone’s vote.
I got FJ right and a lot of the other ones they were missing.
Glad I misinterpreted it!
Today’s episode was exciting!
The other night they showed them a pic of Goldie Hawn and Warren Beatty. Crickets. They were all too young for ‘Shampoo.’
Two days in a row that the person in third place ended up winning!
Two days in a row that the contestants in first and second place missed an easy (IMO) FJ
And another easy FJ that 2 contestants missed.
Season 3 of Celebrity Jeopardy! premieres on Wednesday, January 8, with Ken hosting.
With all due respect, there’s a reason IEIYKI (it’s easy if you know it) is a thing. The other day, Polk/polka seemed like a no brainer to me, but for three random people, it didn’t click.
I keep meaning to write this, but something more important always comes up, but today’s game reminded me.
I’m impressed that Ken always gets the preferred pronouns right, particularly since he deals with 11+ contestants in a day’s taping.
I suppose it’s possible he messes up and they refilm, but I’ll live my little fantasy.
I can’t find the post now, but last night, someone posted that she was disappointed in Jeopardy’s use of “b00b” for “breast” in a clue, and I agree. It was totally unnecessary. It was a question about art!
Agree…it also shows a lack of awareness about who (I expect) makes up the majority of the Jeopardy audience.
I am not such a prude that the use of the word was shocking – more that it was unnecessary and easily avoided.
I think it was in the “Get it off your chest, no replies allowed” thread.
Agree—use of the word seemed weird, maybe a poor attempt by a young clue writer to give the question a “young” vibe? Weren’t there ‘adults’ around to catch this?
I’m the one who posted it, immediately after I heard it. I was just so flabbergasted that I had to get it off my chest! I thought that it was incredibly un-Jeopardy-like.
No pun intended?
