New new American Idol thread (2010).

Yeah this is an off year. I think Crystal is a clear #1, and Lee a strong #2. That’s about it. After that, to me it doesn’t matter. Losing two next week is a nonissue. You could see the overall weakness this year when David Archuleta sang. I thought he was amazing…it almost hurts to listen to Tim (I cringe when he’s performing), and I dislike Shioban more and more each week. I was somewhat surprised at Mike. OK he is arrogant, but he can sing. Just hasn’t nailed one yet.

Besides the skinny jeans, Mike’s white shirt looked 3 sizes too small. He is a big, muscular(?) dude, but he looked like he was poured into it.

The show is as good as the judges made it to be in the beginning. Why did they boot Angela before the final 24? She was better than some of them. What about Lilly Scott? she was better than Didi. I think they got the dead weight on the final 24 by coosing 12 untalented, and 12 somewhat talented, without anticipating the untalented were to remain longer. Now we have a teen show, popularity show with mediocre singers, excet for a handful.

I disagree about how Crystal would have been voted off a few years ago. Remember Diana Something – who made it to number 2 one season and was awful? I think Crystal is better than Clay Aiken, more interesting than Chris Allen, and a heck of a lot better than Taylor Hicks – I never did understand how he won.

Interesting how no one is posting on this thread and the show is about over. This is the WORST GROUP EVER. How can they butcher Elvis time after time???

It was terrible–again.

I kind of liked Crystal, but that was it. I hate to admit that Tim was actually good, so the show must be that bad, right?

WHY do they select Elvis songs to sing every year?? This show is boring. Crystal took a few chances but the rest were eh…although I do like Casey, he sounds the same every week.

Product placement.

CKX, Inc’s two largest properties are 19 Entertainment, the creator of American Idol, and the Elvis Presley and Graceland marketing rights.

If you can’t find an Elvis song to perform, you shouldn’t be on stage. It was quite apparent tonight that most of these kids had never heard of Elvis Presley. They butchered most of the songs. *In The Ghetto *is not a Teddy Pendergrass ballad. Sorry.

Thanks for the insight, idad.

Siophan was smiling throughout the first half of Suspicious Minds. She didn’t even get what the song was about. Elvis is a classic. Nothing wrong with his music in the right hands.

Gaaah, I hate Elvis and most of his music. (I think In the Ghetto is the most gag-inducing song ever written.) So it was quite painful to watch the show tonight. Adam was a great mentor, really zeroing in on everyone’s weaknesses–but every time he’d sing a snippet to illustrate a point to one of the contestants, they just looked even worse by comparison.

I like Crystal, I think Casey and Tim are nice eye candy, and Michael bores me so much that I mentally drift away every time he starts to sing. I don’t get all the praise for Lee–he sounds like a bunch of other singers, wanders off key too often and has flat affect that annoys the heck out of me. I see tons of potential in Siobahn, but think she needs training and discipline. The rest are of no interest to me. What a dull year.

It is a very dull year.

I have no favorites. I liked Siobahn, right up to the point where she received her first real critique from the judges. In my opinion, these folks are given a great opportunity to make some real improvement. However, that is only going to happen if you are open to criticism. If they can’t take the judges’ criticism (including Simon’s), I KNOW they wouldn’t like my son’s college vocal instructor. Disagreeing with him (at least to his face) is NOT an option.

But on the brighter side…how nice to have a mentor like Adam Lambert work with the contestants. He actually gave them constructive advice instead of just saying “I think you’re great”.

Adam’s critiques were the best part of last night’s show.

I loved Adam LAmbert last night, he knew what he was saying, and I can’t wait to see him tonight performing. He is the ultimate Idol, unique, broke every mold, and I hated Siobhan comparing herself to him, there is only one Adam.

^ When Siobhan said she’d been compared to him, Adam replied, “That’s a nice compliment for you,” which made me chuckle. Adam definitely doesn’t have a self-esteem problem!

Lambert is just back from an around the world TV and radio promo tour. Australia, Singapore, Japan, Scotland, England, and Germany. 19 Entertainment is giving him the full international launch in a way that they have not done for any other recent Idol alums. He performed live on Australia So You Think You Can Dance with three dance pairs – two male/female couples and one male/male couple (apparently not on ABC).

I thought Adam said, “That’s a nice compliment.” I did not hear the “for you.” He seems fairly self confident, but like most of us, probably has moments of feeling unsure of himself. That said, I thought he did a great job mentoring last night and I can’t wait to hear him sing tonight.

He was straight forward, great job. Funny we are commenting on him and not on the lousy contestants!

Yes everyone is commenting about Adam because he is one of the really talented ones to come out of AI. This years bunch will soon be forgotten!

Yes, I misquoted…I’m sure you’re right. So you interpreted it as Adam politely saying that he was complimented on being compared to Siobhan? Could be…and that would be quite gracious of him!

Haven’t we been saying?:

Personally, I think Ryan is just bored silly this year.
