House Hunters and House Hunters International
Eureka
Stargate Universe

We DVR lots of things in our house:
My husband tends to be a fan of shows like Warehouse 13, White Collar, Covert Affairs, Nikita, he loves Two and a Half Men and the Simpsons

my 16 year old daughter loves all the typical teen stuff: Gossip Girl, Secret Life, Make it or Break It, Huge, Hellcats

She and I try and watch the following shows together when we can: Top Model, Project Runway, Vampire Diaries, Biggest Loser, American Idol,Bachelor/Bachelorette, Glee, DWTS(although I do a “power watch” you know fast forward through the whole thing and see the show in 6 minutes! This new cast doesn’t interest me in the least though)

As a family we usually watch: Amazing Race, Survivor and the best show on tv…Friday Night Lights. For those of you who have never seen it try and catch it on ABC Family or on DVD. Truly an amazing group of actors and writers and we will all miss it when it ends this year. Also my husband and I would always watch Damages but now that has gone by way of Direct TV with no later network replay so I will have to catch it on DVD. He and I and my college-age son love Dexter although we buy the season by season DVD since I don’t get Showtime. Thinking of switching to it from HBO though, so we can see the new season in real time.

As for me: My husband says he can see the brain cells fleeing my brain with some of the reality shows I watch. I admit my guilty pleasure is the Housewives of …whatever city but DC. As for series I enjoy the Good Wife and Parenthood and I have to check out Modern Family since so many people have recommended it. Not sure how much longer I can take Grey’s, I am looking forward to Hawaii 5-0, Blue Bloods, Lonestar and the Event. My DVR is going to be busy. I think I have about 15 things to watch on my DVR right now so I am not sure adding new shows is a good idea!

Thanks, ScottZ, I’ll put The Event on my list.

Some of the summer stuff are some of my faves: closer, rizzoli and isles, BURN NOTICE, psych, covert affairs. TNT and USA are great at putting stuff together that’s entertaining.

Reality: Amazing Race, Project Runway, and Survivor (hubby’s huge Race and Survivor fan). I love a DVR and a fast forward for the boring parts on reality tv.

Parenthood, SVU, Glee, NCIS, Brothers and Sisters, FRINGE!!!, V, Criminal Minds, Big Bang Theory!!!, and I’m looking forward to Hawaii 5-0 and The Event. Hope I don’t get sucked into The Event only to be disappointed like with Flashforward. I hate when they cancel something w/o first explaining it all. Even a written synopsis of the way it was going to go would have been okay; just, don’t leave me hangin’. :(

H recently had surgery and was sequestered at home for two weeks w/ leg in the air. We watched all of The West Wing from beginning to end. Lordy, I miss that show!

zebes

P.S. Forgot House. :)

morrissmm, Community is on NBC Thursday’s at eight – it’s about a guy who gets caught lying on his resume and has to go back to Community College to get his degree. The whole show revolves around a Spanish 101 study group at the Community College, including a old guy who just likes hanging out with college kids (chevy chase), a newly divorced mom, a high school athlete who didn’t make the cut, the high school good girl who is on a gap year due to mental health issues, etc.

New guilty pleasure? Hellcats! Love the alcoholic mother, bike-riding law student with a 14-inch waist, and Ashley Tisdale as the Christian girl making her own way at the mythical Lancer U. Oh baby.

I am redeemed only by my complete inability to watch any reality programs where people are nasty to eachother.

Thanks lololu! Sounds interesting. Is it an hour or half hour show?

OMG it’s official. We are the only house in America without a DVR. My kids were right.

It’s time to introduce your kids to my daughter. They can commiserate about the lack of DVR. That’s why I was so happy to find out from EW that I have no major viewing conflicts this fall.

My biggest saving grace is DirecTV. We are on the west coast and therefore get most non-network shows on east coast feed. So a show that airs at 8 I see at 5 etc. The upshot is that I get network from 8-11 and the others 5-8, so little conflict.

We have really been loving Freaks and Geeks repeats on IFC on Fridays. How did this show not become a major hit?

No DVR here either.Top Chef is on “On Demand”

No DVR either. If shows conflict, I’ll either watch one online at some point or hope it’s rerun later in the year.

ellenmope,
As another fan of Royal Pains, I was thrilled to see a promo saying it is returning in January. We don’t have to wait until next summer this time!
I also love White Collar and Covert Affairs on USA. The DVR is also programmed for Mad Men, Greys Anatomy, House, The Office, The Good Wife and Friday Night Lights. D made me get Direct TV last summer. Although I hate how it blacks out when we get rain from certain directions, I do love getting Friday Night Lights back in November. I did not think I would take that show to my heart like I have, but Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton are just wonderful.

Since I’m in bed every night by 10pm at the latest, without a DVR I would watch nothing but endless reruns of crime procedurals. Let me just say this. Do NOT watch Criminal Minds when alone in the house late at night.

I love the Amazing Race. DS and DD want to run it together. We always talk strategy. Maybe one day their Amazing Race dream will come true!

Castle - Nathan Fillion totally cracks me up.
Big Bang Theory
How I Met Your Mother - not sure why, but I really relate to this show.

I find a DVR is a huge time saver and given crazy family schedules it helps us not be a slave to the TV. My daughter & I find time that we both can watch our favorite shows together, even if one of us is available when it is airing.

Our favs: Glee, Desperate Housewives & Project Runway.
She & her brother watch: House & Bones

I wholeheartedly agree with this!!

It looks like one of the new shows I had wanted to try out (Nikita) has already started two weeks ago. What the heck?! Thank goodness many of the new shows put full episodes on line, but I don’t like to watch TV sitting at my computer…

I loved the earlier show, La Femme Nikita, with Peta Wilson. Haven’t seen her much since the show ended in 2001. She was WONDERFUL!

I can’t watch Criminal Minds and I love that kind of show.

Sickos!

I had a brief fling with Criminal Minds before realizing that it really is just too creepy. I think the entire cast is first-rate, and remarkable in that even the actors playing what are usually written as eye candy roles (Shemar Moore and A.J. Cook) give interesting, nuanced, convincing performances.

Dumb question: what is DVR? a service? a piece of equipment that stands alone? a piece of equipment that needs a service? can it work on/with an older TV? We are clearly Amish.

I watch very little TV. I do love Amazing Race. D and I also like The Next Food Network Star. I guess the only night I turn on the TV is Sunday night. We also try to watch Say Yes to the Dress.
H loves Modern Family.
Both my girls love One Tree Hill.
Son is odd and watches only sports and the History or Discovery Channel.
D DVR’s lots of junk from Disney and ABC Family.
H DVR’s tennis and NBA basketball.
I realize I am missing a lot of shows. I sort of stopped watching once the kids took over the TV. We just got a TV in our room this year but try not to turn it on once I get in bed. If I just want a little TV before sleep I usually go between Food Network and HGTV.
