New TV Season and the One Show You Can't "Miss"

DVR is something you pay extra for on your cable box , that can be set to record shows like VCR’s used to.

It stands for Digital Video Recorder.

The advantage of a DVR is that there are no tapes like with a VCR - it is all digital. It’s also very easy to use as you just use the cable’s schedule guide to highlight shows you wish to record and press record - nowhere near as complicated as some VCRs are to use.

OMG,

Going through the list of shows and nodding my head to all of the ones that I watch, I am DVRing so much stuff. Does it count that I too Fast foward on some shows to get to the chase (or when I think that it is dragging)?

My Current watching habits:
The Good Wife, Private Practice,Grey’s Anatomy,Glee,Army Wives,Drop Dead Diva, Royal Pains, Project Runway,Top Chef,Top Chef Just Desserts
ANTM,Hellcats,Modern Family,What Not to Wear/Say Yes to the Dress
Gossip Girls,SVU ,Brothers & Sisters

What I am looking forward too:
The Even, The Whole Truth, The Apprentice (ITE, really rooting to people to get a job at the end of it all)

Hi sybbie. Hey, whatever gets you through the night, is alright. I know because John Lennon said so. His 70th birthday is in a few weeks. I can’t imagine John as a 70 year-old-man, but then again, I can’t imagine myself as a 59 year-old-woman and I am.

Hi Sybbie! How are you! How is Chickie? I think of you guys, even wrote a post about sunglasses at one point and thought of Chickie and me with our Chanels:).

I just figured out that Flash Forward was canceled. Bummer. We really liked that show.

Many of you have listed my returning favorites, but I confess I want to see the new TLC show “Sister Wives” about a polygamist family. I know, I know …… call it curiosity or voyeurism, but I really want to see at least the first episode.

“Undercover Boss”

Hokey and sweet, and nice to see how the bosses are learning what it’s like to be an employee and how to improve their companies.

We liked Flash Forward too… but I guess it says something that I didn’t even realize it was cancelled, I had forgotten about it.

I like to watch Friday Night Lights on Hulu. I make fun of the 27 year olds playing high school students, and how everyone just hands supposed 16 year olds beers, and the number of “teenagers” hooking up with adults would be totally creepy if it weren’t for the “teenagers” clearly being the same age as the adults. BUT… the acting and dialogue are some of the best I’ve ever seen on TV. These may not be real teens, but the emotions and conversations between characters ring SO true. Love it.

Watching the Event; Reminding me of watching Lost, first season

Really Shrink?! We’re huge LOST fans. I’ve watched the series several times so I’ll say I’m biased. We were a bit dissapointed by The Event, at least visually but had to remind ouselves LOST was essentially a 43min movie every week. The premier episode where the plane crash takes place was so amazing visually it’s hard to compare. We’re def going to stick with it. The second episode is supposed to answer a lot of questions and really move the story forward, which was a frustration for casual LOST viewers. Hopefully it will stay around long enough to really get a shot.

“I just figured out that Flash Forward was canceled. Bummer. We really liked that show.”

The Event is probably more like Flash Forward than Lost…feels more like that style…like it was said, visually…

like blueiguana, we will watch it again for a few weeks to see if we get hooked; the nice thing about LOST that really got us involved was the anonymity of the stars who played the characters; THe Event does have a number of familiar faces making it “feel” less like the “essentially 43 min movie”…we’ll see…

My 17 yr old really cringed at the promo that said “as good as Lost”…in her mind, nothing will ever compare…

It’s hard when a studio makes comparisons before a shows premier. We did like it, and may never have made the comparison. It’s a gamble to bring in viewers who were fans of another show. Let’s be honest though, there were a lot of fans that couldn’t get into LOST, gave up in seasons 2-3 when it got kind of boring, or got tired of waiting for answers. The genre isn’t for everyone. Again, it’s a gamble for a studio to make a comparison. Where The Event differs, some viewers who didn’t like LOST may really, really like.

The Season Premier of House was awful. I missed the last five minutes but I can’t imagine it made up for the rest of the episode.

I never could get into “Lost”. I tried, several times.

It seems like a show I would have liked, based on other sci fi/time travel/alternate reality shows I have enjoyed in the past.

I am going to Tivo “The Event”. We’ll see. I do hate when they compare one show to another before it’s ever aired!

The last 5 minutes of House were the best…

Otherwise it was a bad episode…

I loved House-----I really want those two to get together (with conflict of course)-----Castle was good too. Glad I have a DVR. Lot’s to check out this week.

The liar show some one mentioned earlier is Lie to Me on Monday nights, I like that one. And I am so glad to see so many people enjoying Parenthood, I don’t want it canceled.

Did the Event already premiere? Dang. No DVR here and no big focus on TV except that I often watch TV with my recently widowed mother…DWTS last night…gagchokegag

“The Event” starts next weekend.

I have never seen DWTS or American Idol or any of those shows. I heard Jennifer Gray is dancing, though. That must be weird - the last time she danced it was with Patrick Swayze. :(
