Baltimore-Washington would definitely be interesting. Close together cities. Sister in law and her family live in Baltimore bur a son and his wife live in DC. I would be rooting for Washington!
You 100% jinxed that….
Our son just pointed out that dh and I are going to be on an airplane for the end of the NFC championship game next Sunday! Nooooooo! Dh wasn’t even thinking about that possible conflict when we booked our flight (his 49ers season was basically over when he bought the tix). We are going to see a Big East basketball game Sat night - son’s school better win and make the trip worth it! Hopefully we can get wifi on the plane.
Would be happy to see Washington and Buffalo in the Super Bowl.
So many screwups by Baltimore
I felt that way about the Detroit game, too. It stinks that one off week means that everything is over, but that is unfortunately the way it works. Until next year!
S2 watched the entire Commanders-Lions game. It ended at 6:30 am, Ukraine time. We were chatting online most of the time. I don’t know how he didn’t wake up DIL because he was pretty excited!
S2 moved to Ukraine in early March 2018. Told me at Dulles that they’d win Lord Stanley because he wouldn’t be there. He was right. Was still in Ukraine in 2019: Nats won the World Series. 2025: Still in Ukraine. Washington will win the Lombardi.
One of the local sports talking heads for the Caps told S six years ago that he needed to stay in Ukraine because it was clearly good luck, and who knows, maybe Snyder would sell the team and they’d win the Super Bowl.
It’s destiny! Last time Washington won the Super Bowl I was 8.5 months pregnant with him.
Sigh. Last time the Lions won the Super Bowl was never.
So the NFL season has come down to 3 no big surprise teams and one shocker. If the Commanders knock off Philadelphia (made even better they are division rivials) would make for a heck of a story. The Lions was a shocker, though I have to hand it to Dan Quinn, their defense did a number on Goff and they couldnt find answers (you turn the ball over 5 times, you are likely going to lose). The Lions defense had 9 players on IR and they literally had practice squad players in there, it was a wonder quite honestly they got that far with the defense so hacked up (they had a total of 18 on IR).
Even though I am a Jets fan I’ll be rooting for the Bills. Kansas city is a great team and Reid is one of the best coaches in NFL history, but I am getting a little tired of the narrative around them, and yes, I do believe that they get a ridiculous number of calls in their favor, their offensive line holds and doesn’t get flagged (the officiating experts on the broadcasts have even called this out), and the roughing penalties on Mahommes are because he flops and play acts, or he runs, slides at the last second, gets hit and they call it roughing. I don’t think it is an NFL conspiracy, I think refs are doing it because they have this idea Mahommes is fragile and needs to be protected (it is why they never called roughing when Cam Newton or Josh Allen get hit), and they overlook KC penalties because quite honestly they see them favorably. Whatever it is, it is much like the Cowboys in the 70s with the obnoxious Americas Team crud. Wouldn’t mind a Buffalo Commanders super bowl to be honest. Daniels doesn’t look like a rookie, the kid has poise you don’t see in a rookie often, and he is a multiple threat (some of his throws left my jaw hanging open). Philadelphia has a strong team and Quinn will have his work cut out for him trying to stop Barkely, if they want the real meaning of an MVP he is it, without him Philadelphia likely wouldn’t have made it anywhere close to this IMO.
I tend to like the Chiefs, but I am a little tired of them. And I agree that the calls/no calls are going their way. But two Longhorns are on the team so I still root for them, especially because Worthy has had such a large role this season.
But, truthfully, if it comes down to the Chiefs and Washington, I’ll be all about the Commanders. Such a great story. Despite being a lifelong fan of America’s Team I will throw my support behind Washington.
We all had agreed that we were just so thrilled how far the Commanders came this year, so okay to feel really good for the Lions if they could go all the way. Then THAT happened! I do feel for the Detroit fans. The ones in the stands that they showed on TV were the saddest thing.
But…go Commanders. No matter what, I’m glad you got this far.
As a Patriots fan, I’m just enjoyed watching the country uniting to hate a team other than us!!! We’re too pathetic to hate at this point.
(Oh, and if the use of “we” and “us” upsets you, that’s your problem, not ours. Feel free to refer to your team as “we” and “us”—won’t bother me one bit!)
I was sad when Detroit lost! And we are Eagles’ fans! Not sure that Hurts will be able to stifle his annoying tendancy to hold the ball way too long against the Commanders, but at least the favoritism calls per KC shouldn’t be an issue. Go Birds!
I met Barkley once, and he is every bit as good a man as reputed. Very happy that he is having such a great season.
maybe this will settle the attrition of its head coaching turnover. hoped he took over ucla last year😎 but it wasn’t to be.
Mahomes better rethink his running game this week. After last week’s much criticized penalty calls, ranted against not only by fans but by the likes of Brady and Aikman, coaches are going to tell their players to stop running at half speed to avoid a penalty. You’re going to be penalized anyway.
The problem with that data is it is a statistical average, like “Kansas city statitistically gets X percent of calls in their favor, which is within a short marging of most teams”. What it doesn’t mention is where penalties happen at critical times, like Mahommes gets sacked, it would be 4th down late in the game, but they throw the roughing penalty. The ex NFL officials they hire as experts in games I have watched commented on how KC gets the borderline calls. Then there are the non calls, especially the holding calls on their offensive line, games I have watched the commentators are like “how wasn’t that called”. With Mahommes they call roughing because he looks small and fragile, meanwhile Goff got hit by come monster on the Commanders defense, where he literally was woozy and he was defenseless, but because he is bigger, didn’t get the roughing call, Josh Allen is the same way. Cam Newton was practically knocked unconscious and they wouldn’t call it…then again, Tom Brady was great at flopping, too, and refs often would give it to him. It is true success breeds contempt, New England would know about that, but there is really something there I think with KC. It doesn’t explain every game they have won, lot of it is opposing teams screwing up, but there is enough where people aren’t entirely wrong.
That is the thing, and it could mean Mahommes starts taking massive shots because they figure might as well get something out of it. Mahommes is as talented as Brady at getting roughing calls, my favorite is he gives himself up a half second before he would be tackled, and they call it hitting the QB after he gave himself up, the rules should specify that if the QB gives himself up within like 2 yards of a defender, it isn’t a penalty.
I don’t know if the Eagles can hang on , but my kids and DH are all in different places and our family texting is hilarious.
We are also united in wishing Tom Brady would never use the word “stud” again.
