My son was named a Finalist and we are very excited, coming in from OOS so it should be a really cool adventure! Hope he gets it as it is really the only way we can likely make it work financially.
Good luck!
Hi, I really happy my son was accepted, we are from Peru, if you know someone more from my country please tell me
Hi all - any thoughts or experience from last year on following: deferred student mid-year grades are not as strong as early action submitted grades. D25 made first C (AP calc) and while GPA and rank are not adjusted mid-year, it, well, imagine it will bump her down the list. Everything else is strong - 34 ACT, lots of great extra currics, strong essays, etc. Thanks in advance for any analysis!
This same exact thing has happened to my child as well. Guess we will see what happens, I told them be prepared for a denial but we shall see
Yeah, itās a tough year, D25 wants to avoid another rejectionā¦
Any pointers when NCSU is releasing decisions on deferred students? Will it be exactly on March 30 with the regular decisions or possibly earlier?
My daughter has been accepted to NC State, and she would like to visit campus. The best time for us is the same week as NC Stateās spring break week. Is it still worth visiting campus that week and just doing a self-guided tour?
My S23 was deferred at NCS two cycles ago (4.45W / SAT 1360) and then did worse 1st semester senior year compared to prior years. I think he got waitlisted at RD. He already knew he wanted to go to Clemson where he was accepted EA, and that may have influenced his performance. I can say that he got 0 acceptances from the 4 or 5 schools where he was deferred from EA to RD, which Iām fairly convinced (but canāt prove) was related to a combination of senior year course rigor as well as performance. He definitely dropped off (senior-itis) in both. Heās doing well at college though Current S25 also deferred EA at NCS but he learned lesson from older brother and has more or less maintained things senior year. So weāll see. That might not be the news you wanted, but that was our experience. Then again, my S23 did worse than your D25 1st semester senior year
I got deferred having a 4.28 weighted and a 3.8 unweighted and my semester dual enrolled classes during my senior year fall brought by GPA to a 4.367 and brought my class rank to 32/176 to 25/176. I also changed my major from Human Biology (really competitive) to Nutrition Science and my second (didnāt do a second one originally, itās probably why I got deferred) to Exploratory Studies, and I got a personalized email from them telling me ānice work for completing so much dual enrollment courses!ā I had like 12, and told me that because of that they didnāt make my second to exploratory studies. Donāt know if Iāll get accepted, weāll see!
well done! Some additional evidence of the importance of senior year course rigor and performance. I donāt fault my S23 for slacking a bit senior year - I did the same thing way back when, and life is a marathon, not a sprint
My daughter seems to be taking her coursework more seriously this year, which is great. She got straight As first semester, including in both her AP courses. Her rank is probably still poor, Iām not sure whether they recalculate it mid year or not. In any event, Iām hoping the grade improvement helps for RD.
Rank is so subjective though! The person above had a 4.37 and is ranked 25/176. My kids had a 4.5 and was ranked 35/400. Others may have that gpa and be in the top half. Itās a shame NC puts so much weight on rank.
and some schools (like ours) donāt have a class rank
Yes, but any public schools do, I think. Itās law in NC.
there is no class rank at our school, certainly not one that is reported to students on transcripts or anywhere else. This is why, on common app and University of CA application system, there is an option to select ānoneā for class rank reporting
Maybe, but itās one of only three things the NCSU CDS lists as āVery Importantā (along with rigor and GPA). Nearly half the 2023 entering class is shown as being in the top 10% in terms of class rank. My daughter isnāt even in the top quarter.
D was deferred EA, and today got an email that her honors decision was deferred until April 4. i was surprised to see the email as i thought deferral would have ended that possibility. is this a common scenario? Did others get that communication today?
I got my honors decision via email todayāmy status was not updated and itās not in my portal, but I got an email today saying congratulations youāve been accepted with my name and more information.
weirdā¦just had my daughter check. she was accepted for EA on 1/24 (school of engineering), no email from honors today, but the place where the honors app lived in the portal is gone.
