Northeastern Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2025 Admission

The amount of the merit scholarship at NEU appears to continue going down, this year especially.

I know it only shows ā€œthe wait is overā€ if you got in, but does it show that if you were accepted to your second choice like Oakland or NU in, or is ā€œthe wait is overā€ for first campus preference acceptances only?

It showed the wait is over when I got Oakland

Hi!! Can i ask how much did she got in Scholarship?

UF is definitely not playing the yield game. The colleges that are truly playing the yield game have high acceptance rates in their early decision programs. UF doesn’t even have an early decision program.

UF has climbed the rankings over the past decade and they look more like UVA and UMich than Northeastern. Northeastern is an excellent school, which is why we have all encouraged our kids to apply. Personally, I LOVE the COOP program - amazing. Saying all of that, Northeastern’s rankings are nowhere near UFs in the national list. I am not knocking Northeastern but I think people need to understand what UF is today and how selective it has become on a national level. On a side note, I believe that all of our kids will end up exactly where they need to be. Somehow this craziness all works out.

Everyone is talking about how Northeastern is able to manipulate their rankings past few years … i am still not able to justify the cost of their programs… For us its going to be around 320k for a 4 year undergrad with no merit aid. Heard good things about their coops… can a kid earn that much in a coop so he can cover atleast some cost of his next semester?

If anyone is applying to ED2, what is your predicted idea of when decisions will be released?
My best guess is February 14th (considering last year it was Feb. 15), but I’m not entirely sure…
Also has anyone put for campus preferences that NYC is one of their choices and/or gotten in? I put it as my second choice…but I haven’t heard of anyone discussing an NYC start…

My S25 was offered the NYC scholars option. No merit unfortunately.

However the thing I noticed is that apparently this program is not eligible for any Federal or state aid. Is it because it is in this transition state with Marymount? Does this mean my son can’t take out the Federal loan or we can’t take out a Parent Plus loan? If so the this seems to me to be a non starter for all but a select few families.

Northeastern is expensive. Period. I agree - it is hard to swallow the cost. I can’t imagine the COOP programs can put much of a dent in the price tag.

On average, a student will earn enough of coop to cover living expenses while on coop and spending money for the next academic term.

Last year it was the fourteenth (Northeastern Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission - #1075 by itllallworkout). EA was february 1, so one day short of a 2 week turnaround from ea to ed2.

2023 was Feb 1 for EA and Feb 15 for ed2, 2 week turnaround.

I’m hoping Jan 29 + 2 weeks = Feb 12, because I don’t think the ed2 pool has grown too much to take longer, and the EA this year was actually earlier than last year.

Have you considered Drexel, GA Tech, or NC State? All have excellent co-op programs. Drexel has had theirs almost as long as NU and has it incorporated into the program same as NU as well. BUT - they give offer much more in merit. One of my kids only wanted a co-op so these are schools we have looked at/applied to. The aid at Drexel is over what we would have imagined.

No my son didn’t apply to drexel or UNC

I do not know for Northeastern, but I know UMass the merit award varies for those invited to honors college because my daughter was offered one amount and a friend of hers also invited to honors college was offered a lesser amount…so I am not sure if it literally is decided by major, GPA, SAT/ACT, or a combination, etc… no idea of decision criteria but wouldnt surprise me in Northeastern is similar.

My kid is already admitted to oakland campus… it was already there in his acceptance letter.

And in addition, there are age restrictions (must be ā€œ18 yrs old by X dateā€) to be eligible for some locations. Also you will not get to ā€œchooseā€ a preferred location until you put an enrollment deposit down so if there is a NU.in site that is very popular (historically Paris, Rome, and Madrid might be in that category), they can go quickly once the locations are out and people start taking spots. you can always be put on a waitlist if the location is filled but obviously that is not guaranteed.

Correct. And those age restrictions are the policies of the host country. Northeastern cannot override them.

Anybody know roughly what percent of the class is admitted through rd?
edit: nvm i found it on the common data set

Sometimes people mix up merit and need based FA. But it is up to the Admissions dept to provide merit awards. I agree with @VanGogh007 that merit amounts have been going down for years. A few years ago NU stated that they would be focusing more on need based aid. You can always reach out, but know going in that NU does not typically negotiate. One other thing, if a student is a NMF, they often get higher merit aid than plain honors or other merit. I have not seen much posted this year about NMF scholarships but has been dropping from 10 years ago+ when folks got full tuition, then 30k, to now just a competitive scholarship and it seems the trend was that maybe they would get $5k more than originally offered.
