Thank you for the reply. Your math is good. I was under the impression that NU split 50-50 between ED and RD but if it’s 1:2 ratio, 45% yield for RD make more sense.
Hi there, @CarnegieDad !
Since you seem to have some knowledge of NU, any insight as to approximately how many apps were received in RD? Someone posted a few months ago that it might be around 52,000. My ED deferred daughter is hoping and praying to hear good news when decisions are released on Friday, but she knows in a much larger pool of RD applicants, her chances will go down. Thanks in advance for any info you may have!
Hi there. NU typically has about 1,980 spots for freshmen. They are likely to have accepted ~1,000 during the ED (it is a reasonable tactic to improve their yield). Assuming some of them will not end up enrolling, due to changes in family finances or other reasons, there will be 1,000 spots left for RD - perhaps a tad more. Using recent indicative yields of ~60^%, you can estimate that NU is likely to offer 2,300 spots during the RD round.
The number you saw earlier (52,000) probably included roughly 5,000 for ED, so the RD pool should be around 47,000, plus the deferred ones. I estimate that NU will dole out 2,300 admissions to fill the 1,000 spots left, so you can do the math.
If your DD has submitted her LOCI and got in touch with her specific AO, then she has really done all she could, and all you can do now is pray. College admission really has become a lot more competitive these days. I am parent myself and I know how stressful it must have been. God bless and best of luck to your family!
@CarnegieDad Thank you for the helpful information - I know she put a lot of thought and heart into her NU LOCI because she is so passionate about the school and its mission, but I think enough time has passed that if she is not admitted to NU, she will understand and move on. Thankfully, she has some other great options already from EA and RD schools, but if she is admitted to NU she will be SO excited to attend. As her mom, I’ve simply said, if they don’t want you after they’ve seen all that you offer as a person and student, then it’s truly their loss. So be it! Thanks again, and best of luck to your children in the process as well!
Does everyone’s portal say March 25th with no time?
Why can’t I find the ED admission rate for this cycle? Only the total? I feel like I can easily find this information for nearly every other school.
