Son Deferred
4.0 UW, all 5s on AP (Euro, US, Lang and Calc BC), taking 4 more AP plus advanced math, 1570 SAT (800M, 770R), tons of ECs, research internship this summer. Really upset kiddo over here. I hate the deferral.

My son was accepted.
Lots of EC, APs, 4.5 GPA, many volunteer hours and involvement at church.
I know so many are disappointed and my heart does really go out to you all.
DS Deferred.
He’s happy. He has been accepted to a few other schools this past week that he really likes as well.
He will continue to supplement his application as requested and he will see what happens in March.
Big Congrats to those accepted!
Congratulations to all accepted!
plus notre dame does not offer the degree that your daughter wanted to pursue-biomedical engineering. she will do great.
Congrats to your acceptance to USC. Do you mean Southern Cal or S Carolina?
Story posted today about ND’s REA admissions.
So they accepted close to 13% students. I wonder how many got deferred.
I was told by someone inside the admissions world that they let in about 15% of the REA pool, defer about 15%, and reject about 70%.
That seems to be pretty accurate. I saw an article posted by a college consultant organization, and that article seems to indicate that ND Admissions defers about the amount amount as they admit in the REA round. A couple years ago, it was roughly 17% admitted, 17% deferred, and 66% denied in REA. Last year was probably more like 15% / 15% / 70% as cited by @2025mom1
The other inevitable question is: ok, so if I’m deferred, what are my chances in the regular decision pool? I have not seen ND disclose this in recent years, but I do recall watching an interview with the former Enrollment VP from a few years ago in which he said 100-150 REA deferrals will be admitted in RD. Who knows if that’s still true today, but it would seem to make sense. The RD admissions rate last year was roughly 7-8%, so it would seem that deferred candidates from REA would also admit at roughly 7-8% or so. The odds are, of course, still low for deferred candidates, only because the odds of admission in the RD cycle are low to begin with given the size of the RD applicant pool.
Great info, so since they admitted 12.9%, do you think around that amount (13%) were deferred?
My daughter was admitted REA. She was delayed submitting the CSS form (she thought it was submitted)so we did not get a financial summary yet. It was turned know along with the FAFSA. For those of you that have received financial info, does it seem to match the NPC? The chart they post? We are at the cusp of income of just under $200k/year with one other child in college but will graduate in 2026. Also, I saw a couple of people on Reddit that already received merit. Anyone else? Not sure if that is just Questbridge students or the general admission.
Trying to keep things realistic. My daughter LOVES ND! We live in Florida and awaiting UF results, but that will basically be free. ND is definitely a better fit, but how much is that worth will be the question. Thanks!
My son was deferred and we just received an email about checking our financial aid checklist and his fafsa is still listed as missing even though he submitted it ages ago. I’m wondering if we should contact financial aid or wait a few more weeks?
Anyone else’s showing as missing still?
