Nursing Degree [Pensacola Christian College vs VCU]

Hi guys, I am a Christian and going to graduate my high school this year. I am confused about should I go to Pensacola Christian College or Virginia Commonwealth College. The total tuitions in VCU is not affordable for my family, but if I go pcc, I can both pay off my tuitions and even sending money to my parents. And what I really wanted to purse is the CRNA program at VCU, I just need to decide where should I get my nursing before joining the program at VCU. Thank you so much for any help!!!

Thanks for the advice!

You will probably get more answers in the nursing major forum.

The general rule is to get your BSN the cheapest way possible, ideally a direct admit program. Most CRNA programs require at least a couple years being an RN, so you are possibly a ways away from that. Plus, you could find other specialties you like better!

Anyway, please visit the nursing major forum for more information.

I can’t answer your question per se about where is best- but I know where you can’t go - to a school you can’t afford!!

I’d find another than you can - whether it’s PCC or somewhere else.

How do you feel about PCC in general? Do you know anyone who has attended there?

I’m asking because it’s a rather… unique environment. It’s only a fit for a very small minority of people. Their rules and requirements make BYU’s pale in comparison, and BYU is known for being pretty restrictive.

You should be aware that PCC does not accept services from the government, so you wouldn’t be able to take out federal loans if you needed to there. What kind of aid did they offer you?

Supposedly their nursing school is fine. But be sure to learn all you can about the school and student life there so that you can figure out if it’s a good fit for you personally.

Are you from Florida or Virginia?
Vcu is unaffordable based on what you said.
Were you admitted anywhere else?
Do you need help finding other colleges (includign conservarive/evangelical Christian colleges) that have direct entry nursing and are still taking apps?
PCC would sound like a no brainer financially but they don’t accept federal grants or funding which means they absolutely do not “meet need” so I’m not sure how it is affordable, what’s your budget?
Can you calculate (tuition, fees, room, board) - (scholarships, grants) = $…
Why would you send money to your parents?
PCC is a niche fit even among Christian colleges (you can compare their mission, creed&co-curricular mandates such as Chapel attendance, as well as beliefs and code of conduct to top ranked Christian colleges like Pepperdine, Calvin, Wheaton IL…)
You will have one Bible course every semester and you will earn a Biblical studies minor.
In other words, you must be serious about your faith and interested in working in a fundamentalist (i.e., all courses start from the view that the Bible is infailible; for instance, you must agree that the Earth was literally created in six literal days…) environment.

Holy smokes, I had no idea about this school.

I wonder how the various components of nursing school - which often include women’s health issues - align here. Also, clinicals can conflict with some of the required activities on campus (unless clinicals are limited to those that don’t).
