********NYU ED Class of 2020 Discussion**********

What is the FA change supposed to be? If mine says “award access not available”, does that mean I haven’t had the FA change yet?

@rochester123

I did the math. If you do a two sided z test for difference in proportions you get a p value of <0.00022, so the hypothesis that the FA change didn’t mean anything last year is extremely low. Now, keep in mind, correlation does not equal causation so there still is no reason for anyone to think that there is a direct relationship between the two. Also, huge confounding, misrepresentation of the true applicant pool, and the fact that there are “unreported results” in sample sizes as small as 7, make drawing ANY conclusions ludicrous from a statistical point of view. So yeah, if you choose to completely look past these logistic warning signs, I guess I can see how the FA change could be an “strong” indicator of admission/rejection.

@Ivywang LOL, good stuff haha. Dont take it tooo seriously tho guys; try not to worry too much (thats coming from someone, who’s hella worried lol, oops). Just have a wonderful Thanksgiving break, and good luck to all!!!

Love you all and hope to see you next year.

Also, since lot’s of ppl have been asking about what the fa change is supposed to be/look like, here’s a picture of it. (Btw, even tho i have it, im no less worried than i was before)

So sorry if this has already been asked, but how do you get your id in order to log onto the Albert site?

Nevermind I found the email with the id.

Does the FA change thing apply to all campuses or only New York? I only applied to NYU Shanghai. Also, I can’t select to a year to view and instead of blue, the words are in purple. Help much appreciated

any international applying ED1 to Steinhardt here?? just curious if 2200 SAT is a good score for an inter student?

My FA Change Theory

  1. It has been a interesting story for many years. It has never been proved/disapproved. So it is just for a entertaining purpose, do not take it too seriously.
  2. There were many speculations in the past. My take for this matter is eventually all accepted will have FA change, while only the enrolled ones will have a active FA account for tuition management.
  3. In the past, FA change happened between Thanksgiving and decision day. You do not have it now does not mean anything bad at all. Sooner or later, you will have FA change if you are accepted (regardless of CSS submission status).
  4. The reason for outliers (who had initial FA change but late were rejected) is that these who made through initial selection did not survive the additional scrutiny later on.

I agree with @iywang’s assessment that FA change story does not make much sense as the CC is heavily biased and the sample size is very small. However just like any flush poll for a national election, it is up to the candidate’s own judgment to believe/disbelieve it.

@iywang…have you had an FA change? thanks @rochester123 and @iywang…like the thorough analyses. pretty in line with what i’ve thought after reading 2yrs worth of these threads…

Anyone else having trouble logging into your Albert accounts.

My guess that in the first wave NYU only updated FA change for those who submitted CSS profile. It is their obligation to update To-Do List after CSS deadline. It is also convenient for them to update both FA change and To-Do list at the same time. However,The FA change will be updated in the second wave for those who did not request any financial aids.
I hope this make sense

@IloveNYU7 Nope! Haven’t gotten it, but I’m not too nervous yet

@rochester123 Haha I’m just going to hope that your theory is true. It definitely makes some sense as no one who didn’t submit CSS on this thread has gotten the FA change (myself included).

Keep your heads up, guys! Best of luck to everyone ~

@Iywang and @rochester123 …hope you are both right. Didn’t submit CSS…No FA change. Here’s wishing us all luck!

Hi, I’m Josh from Houston, TX and I recently applied to ED1 for NYU LS program and the CAS. I recently recieved a change in my FA section that I wanted to note and add to the discussion so I made an account. I don’t know if this is a sign or indication of anything, but it was not like this before and I did not have this little graph in the picture. Is this the change we’re looking for? Can someone help me out?

And I did apply for financial aid and submitted my CSS profile stuff

@ joJoaJawhn, this is the FA change people have been talking about. Only thing I am not sure is that you have 2016; Others have 2017 instead plus other years if they did some NYU programs in the past.

I posted a few days ago about my previous professor never sending in my letter of rec. Well, I decided to ask a different professor and it was finally taken care of yesterday. I called NYU on Wednesday and they said as long as it was in by Monday I was fine. So I guess my application hasn’t even been processed because of this :-S

Do you guys think there’s a chance they will let us know earlier than the 15th?

@collegecarol22 I was actually wondering this also. I know last year they tried to get the decisions out early, but had to revert back to the December 15th deadline. I assume they will stick to the December 15th the entire way through this year as to not disappoint.

I hope we know the weekend before… I don’t want to find out decisions the day of my AP bio exam :frowning:

If I recall correctly, ED 2 or Regular had their decisions a couple days before the scheduled date. If NYU were to release a few days earlier, I’d assume they’d try for the Friday before. They’d prefer to get all of the decisions out before the weekend as it’s less work for them
