********NYU ED Class of 2020 Discussion**********

@natiann123 that’s great info! do you know if the early agreement for the counselor also won’t affect an application? sorry about the weird question.

@revenientis From my understanding, the counselor signing the ED Agreement shouldn’t impact the application status.

any changes in FA for those who did NOT send CSS?

Hello all,
I’m not a prospective student, but I am a prospective student’s parent. My kid doesn’t really frequent the message boards, he has other things that draw his interest. With that said, I’ll say that as anxious as you are, most of your parents are pretty anxious too. This is a fun and exciting time.
I want to wish you all good luck.

I’ve actually been reading the boards for a while, and I feel I have a pretty good handle on what’s going on with the FA change theory, and such.
From what I’ve read over the last several months, here’s my understanding…
A lot of people keep mentioning the about the To Do List changes. That doesn’t really reflect your admission status. It’s just a reflection of if they’ve received your CSS. So don’t worry too much about it, unless you want to confirm they’ve received it.
The Application Status does not reflect your admission status either. It only reflects whether everything they need has been submitted.

So now to the important part…
Based on the theory, The only part you need to watch is the Financial Aid Summary in Albert.
You will see 1 of 2 things under the “Aid Year Description” column

  1. “Award access not available” – This, according to the theory, means they have not yet admitted you. This is the status EVERYONE starts with. This status can change. So even though you see a lot of people had theirs change and yours hasn’t it doesn’t mean yours won’t. So keep the faith.
  2. “No self-service access for this aid year” - this is the key one that everyone is saying is an indicator of you being accepted. According to some, the only time this is not an indicator is if the person is an international student.

While The admissions office denies this is true, the evidence on thi site tends to point to it be at least somewhat true.

The rest of this is my own theory…
From what it looks like, the admissions officers send people through in waves. I believe they want to get the ones requesting financial aid done first, because they want to give the FA office as much time as possible to process the request, and they don’t want to make them process people who are not going to be admitted.

Next I think they push through the kids they think should get the most scholarship money (my theory only). Because again, they want to give the people making those decisions as much time as possible to process it.
From there, they just keep working their way through the list, until they fill out what they think is the best class profile. They probably send everyone through for potential scholarships, though.

With all of that said,
My son is a Hispanic male from TX, and applied to Steinhardt (1st choice), Silver (2nd choice). He requested financial aid, and he does have the FA change. (so I’m pretty hopeful).

Another quiet day for me, no news from NYU or any other schools

Question…i know NYU says that don’t defer to RD from ED…or according to the Dean in the blog…it’s rare. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Blog excerpt October 2015:

“If you apply for Early Decision, we are going to aim to provide you with an early decision. The vast majority of students who apply Early Decision will get a final decision (admit or deny) when we release admission decisions. Last year, fewer than 100 students were deferred to the Regular Decision round and typically only because we wanted more time to make a decision after reviewing additional grades or testing.”

My best friend and I both applied ED to Gallatin. Her fa status changed and mine didnt. However, I also didn’t apply for any financial aid. Is the whole status change a load of bull or does it really mean that you cany get accepted without a status change?

@epgolchini I also didn’t apply for FA and didn’t receive a change. I think the theory is try but only to those who’ve applied for FA Bc they want to get them out of the way first. I wonder if anyone that didn’t apply FA got the FA change. Anyone?

Thank you, @NTXDad. Your theory is very helpful.

@NTXDad Your theory makes a lot of sense. Thank you!

@NTXDad “Next I think they push through the kids they think should get the most scholarship money (my theory only). Because again, they want to give the people making those decisions as much time as possible to process it.”

This makes a lot of sense! I really hope this is true and is happening to everyone who thinks he/she can get in but has not gotten the FA change!

Did anybody have the FA Change in recent days. The first wave was the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, wondering if the 2nd wave has happened yet.

I think we should see the second wave on Friday. I don’t expect to see it earlier than Friday. Base on responses people have gotten when calling the office, they are definitely still actively reviewing applications. They still have all this week and all next week to review applications. Since people who applied for finical aid got the FA change all at once, I’m assuming they only update the system when they finish with certain groups of applicants. Makes sense that after finishing the finical aid applicant students, they would use this week and next to review non-finical aid applicants.

@ferrarivettel I think I was part of the second wave; see my posts from earlier (they have screenshot links)!

I believe I was also a part of the second wave, as my status wasn’t changed until recently. (Yesterday maybe?)

@ferrarivettel Yeah I checked every day and mine happened some time last night

Woah it happens overnight? That’s weird.

What’s the last date that people received the FA Change last year? In other words, when can you expect denial without an FA Change.

I know somebody who got her FA Change December 9th. Wondering if anybody got it even later.

So did any international ED applicants, who did not submit for Financial Aid, got his or her FA change? Idk but this is my situation no FA change, no FA submission. Does that mean my chance is small?

@sugarlicious I don’t know why but people keep saying the FA Change theory isn’t accurate for international students. Do some research on the previous years threads on the change. Remember that NYU is need-aware for international students, unlike the need-blind policy for US applicants. So there may be a difference there.
