********NYU ED Class of 2020 Discussion**********

@ferrarivettel, You are right, we can edit channels from upper right corner, then nothing is special. When I first opened NYU home page, a reminder message for the channels (such as Events, Finance News, Links, Movies, My News Feeds, NYU Directory, NYU Policies and Guidelines, News, Off Campus Housing, Office of Global Services Resources, Skirball Center, Sports News, Student Government, Ticket Central) made me feel very excited.
@marblesandbagels: Just a reminder message for channels on my page for a direct link.

@Ahlesaadat , I am talking about HTTP://HOME.NYU.EDU, two pages before Albert logon.

Did you have an FA Change? And does anyone have the same "reminder?

@stern2020 Oh Thanks man :slight_smile:

@ferrarivettel , I had the change from the first wave, but it is not visible anymore.
@Ahlesaadat , When I made selection for the above mentioned channels, whatever I selected appear to my home page. I do not think it means anything. We can edit the channels by ourselves as @ferrarivettel mentioned.

Only 6 days! Remember to come back here to post your results to help future students gage their chances.

Also… I just wanted to clarify that I DO NOT advocate the hacking of anything. I was just bouncing off of a few other users who had noticed a change in Albert’s source code (which your web browser downloads a copy of to render the webpage) which might be further investigated to find FA change data hidden in the code that your computer is given a copy of when you access Albert. Hacking would require penetrating NYU’s servers. I have no idea how to do this, I highly urge no one to attempt this, and am fully aware of the immorality of such actions. What I was referring to is similar to downloading an image off the internet and applying a black and white filter to it. You are only manipulating your rightfully owned copy of it. The un-edited copy still exists on the internet and the changes you make only are accessible from your computer. You can do such edits to any html on your browser and often times it provides many practical applications (such as Ad blockers).

I do not plan to spend any more time on the FA change theory (or any of the code accompanying it) and plan to log off until decisions come out. See everyone in 6 days! Good luck.

I agree, please don’t try to hack the code. I’m in IT, and have been on large projects to prevent hacking. Even changing the code on your own machine to request data that you are not supposed to see is considered hacking. Someone mentioned Oracle. You are correct that it is a large company, but they are not the ones who set up the environments. It is up to the software developers building the sites, and the system administrators to put in protections. Hackers look for and exploit these weaknesses all the time. The risk you run trying to get the data you are seeking is that you have to send an ID in your request. That info is most likely tracked and will be quickly linked back to the person making the request.
It’s just not worth it.
Also the code downloaded to your machine is not yours. It is the property of the company/developer. Much like the music you listen to. Even though you have a copy of it, the copyright still belongs to the artist. Even if you manipulate it and change it, or even do your own performance of it. Google Vanilla Ice and Queen to learn more.

Finally, someone mentioned that maybe the kids who took summer courses might still see the change. I can confirm this is false, because my child attended over the summer, and he still has the default page now, even though he did have the FA change.

I still thing the theory holds true.

Hi! I know I’m a bit late to he chat but I thought I’d contribute.
So I’m a tisch applicant, so I had an audition.
I didn’t apply for financial aid but I got the change yesterday. So I do definitely have it now!
Probably means nothing but since everyone’s has disappeared I thought you’d like to know. I didn’t have the change at all before it was set back to default.

@covery03 That’s great. My kid applied to Tisch too. Got the FA change on the 12/5 but it was reset to default after an hour. Are you still able to see the FA change? Which FA change did you get?

@covery03 What state are you in may I ask? Cause no one in my school has had a change as of yet.

@remuwannabe I can still see the change, I have the 2017 - New York University - No self service access
Now Imworried it might actually be a bad thing! Who knows? :stuck_out_tongue:

@tandon2020 I’m in California, where I go to high school, but I am technically an international student from the UK

Is there anyone from PA who had the change previously(1st or 2nd wave) or who had it this round? If you could tell me which round you had the change and whatever county you are in that would be helpful!!! Thanks!

Did everyone else get the email about the admissions decision update an hour and a half ago?

Yes.

same

anyone applying to lsp?

Quick Question. I know RD students who were awarded scholarships received acceptance letters with scholarship information early. Does anyone know if that applies to ED as well?

My D did Summer program and we did not apply for financial aid or fill out a CSS profile for ED. Her FA screen says “Award access not available” with NO year next to it. Does anyone who attended previously and has not applied for FA have a screen that says that?
