NYU ED Class of 2023

2018*-2019, and ‘No financial aid data available’ (I did not apply for aid)

Has anyone gotten any FA changes yet? I noticed no one has really talked about it yet unlike in a lot of other threads

@collegemaybeidk last year it was around this date iirc. i wanna know too if anyone got it already

@GiannaC3 how much was your FA package? also, what I didn’t understand is does their FA ‘package’ means they give you e.g. like 20k scholarship 10k federal loans 10k work study and the rest is on you to find the money on your own, or did they break down all the sources to get the money so you don’t have to do the work? (like example = 70k tuition = 20k schoclarhips, 20k loans, 20k workstudy, etc)? I’m international so i’m just thinking that it might be really difficult for me to find sources to get loans

I am already aware that NYU does not provide great financial aid. I just have one question, how accurate is the Net Price Calculator for NYU. @GiannaC3 Was your total grant aid from the NYU estimated net price calculator close to what you received?

I don’t know but suspect the NPC is not that accurate because it uses limited info. Example, we get around $30k grants and scholarships on NYU NPC, but zero $ on BU’s more detailed one (which I suspect is closer to reality). Of course the colleges use the CSS profile differently, but I’m wary of the NYU one, because the online one inputs much less information than what they will actually get from the profiles.

@nycbaby you can apply to heop just call admissions and tell them but maybe you will be moved to ED 2

@collegemaybeidk yeah, I just got my CSS status changed. I submitted it on Nov. 12, and just today it was received by NYU. FAFSA on the other hand is still waiting (says it’ll update in mid-december)

Hello! I applied for HEOP and I heard that NYU sends emails to invite potential candidates to interviews. Has anyone received an email yet?

@natasha1313 One of my friends got his FA change (he did apply for financial aid, unlike the rest though)

when did he get it? how do you actually check it though? i’m afraid i did it the wrong way @Divyansh201

@Divyansh201 when did he get it?

We checked this Monday, he had it. It was the first time he checked his Albert. So, according the to posts in the previous years’ threads, the FA change is basically your financial aid tab on Albert showing an academic year and ‘award access not available’. For me, it just shows no information.

Furthermore, the FA change has been very unreliable in the past couple of years, so I think they fixed it. My friend applied for aid and got the change, and others who did not apply for aid did not get the change. However, my friend who did get the change is applying to NYU CAS and is an extremely strong applicant, who I’m sure will be accepted.
Which brings me to the question - have any of you applied for aid and not gotten the change? Similarly, have any of you not applied for aid and still have the change? Please reply.

Does anyone know if Stern gives interviews for undergraduates?

@Divyansh201 i applied for aid and haven’t got it, hopefully soon!

My brother did not get an interview (he was international). @natasha1313 You should not be worried about the FA change as it is a very unpredictable indicator. You should be worried about the housing change, (looking at past data, I am too) which does not come until a week before admissions.

@Divyansh201 I don’t understand exactly what you are trying to say. Are you implying that if the FA information changes that the student will be accepted?

By the way, strong applicants are not a shoe-in. On my D’s school Naviance, the two top GPA/SAT applicants applying to NYU were both rejected. And the NYU info session told us about a guy where his entire application looked really strong, and they rejected him because of his “why NYU” essay - in the context of, that is rare but it does happen occasionally. I believe that last mentioned was a Stern applicant.

@SJ2727 do you know about anything wrong with his ‘Why NYU’ essay?

FA change is rumored to be acceptance indicator. However it’s becoming more and more unreliable, and what’s still somewhat reliable is the housing change. But don’t entirey believe in those though, some still didn’t get the change and got in, and vice versa.

I don’t remember exact details but the essay was basically along the lines of “greed is good, I want to be rich, I don’t really care are about anything else and NYU will help me get to this goal”. There was some debate around it (like: “lots of people think it, at least this one is honest about it”) but at the end of the day they didn’t think a student that mercenary was someone they wanted at NYU. (I hope it’s ok to post this - they did after all say this at a very full info session, hardly in a confidential forum!)

Yeah I had a quick look at last year’s thread after I posted that, and it definitely seems unreliable. Also seems unlikely NYU would let people know in advance in a backdoor manner like this, I guarantee you they know by now that year after year of CC applicants are let in on this “secret”.
I don’t see where the housing link is, though?

@SJ2727 What does the FA Change look like on the portal exactly? I’m a little confused
