NYU ED Class of 2023

@SJ2727 the housing is said to be quite reliable and related to acceptance since it is released sometimes as close as hours before decisions, but i still don’t want to rely on it  the link is housing.nyu.edu/apply

@annonuser57389 i think it has a table with the year (2019) award access not available. Idk about the exact sentence because i saw the thread a long time ago

@SJ2727 Yes, my brother was a Stern applicant who got accepted and is a current sophomore. I think @natasha1313 has understood the changes correctly, please refer to her post. And as for my friend who did get the change, I am quite sure that his entire application was strong. I have gone through (with his permission, of course) his Common App, his Why NYU essay, his ECs and his grades. I think that there is a high probability of him getting accepted my NYU, as everything seems to be in order.

There can be an alternative reason for the top two applicants to be rejected. Its very simple - some colleges understand that certain applicants place some colleges and safeties (if their profile is too spectacular compared to the average in that college) and so reject them to increase their acceptance rate. They know that the kid with that strong an application is unlikely to end up at that college.

For example, a friend of mine last year got accepted by all his reaches and got rejected by all his safeties. This rejection of top students is not unheard of. What may be shocking to me is that if they were ED applicants, (I don’t think they tell you that in Naviance) which shows direct interest in the college.

And yes, you do need an acceptable ‘Why NYU’ essay. You can’t just write something like that.

I applied to Film & Television at Tisch in mid-October, and I need to have a lot of FA to attend. I’ve got a 4.0, mediocre test scores (but I didn’t turn them in because Tisch) and I think my Why NYU essay and portfolio are strong. Does anyone want to trade Why NYU essays and give feedback? I know we already applied but I want some feedback on what the admissions council might be thinking. I also heard that if you don’t get enough FA you can contact admissions and figure it out with them, one of the ambassadors let me know that they had to do that!

@EmJenkins hey i also applied to Film & Television! Pm me your Why NYU essay

@EmJenkins That’s a really great idea! Can we do the same? @EmJenkins @natasha1313

@Divyansh201 sure pm me :slight_smile:

You need to be a junior member to be able to pm someone. Can we use an alternative way?

Did you all have counselors critiquing your essays before you submitted? Not to put a downer on the community, and it’s great that y’all wanna support each other, but it’s really only people who spend a lot of time reading these essays that can really judge how good they in a comparative context. I’m assuming those of you that used school or private counselors got a good nod before submission?

Of course. @SJ2727 I checked with three counselors at my school, excluding one external, and five of my friends. Can I e-mail you my essay?

@SJ2727 The reason I want to get my feedback from you guys is that the essay writing styles in different countries might be completely different.

I don’t qualify for financial aid/need-based scholarships, so I didn’t submit FAFSA/CSS. Was I supposed to?

@SJ2727 i didn’t get feedback at all  i have a private counselor as well as english teachers, of course, just didn’t really ‘trust’ them. Not that i’m cocky or what, my counselor is just quite the ‘play it safe’ type, and the english in my school wasn’t good… at all. My teacher more than often made grammar mistakes etc so nope lmao. I guess it’s just bc i’m from a developing country so yeah

@Divyansh201 ohh okay, i don’t know another site to share it… reddit maybe?

They’ll be aware of different styles by now, and they’ll certainly be aware US kids get more guidance. I really don’t think you guys need to worry about that kind of thing.

Guys, email me at adivyansh@tisb.ac.in @SJ2727 @natasha1313

@SJ2727 it’s really more out of curiosity for me lol

@utopianordinary , you should have submitted if you wanted to be considered for merit based funding as well, though as we know NYU doesn’t give out much merit-based only funding. If you don’t want any funding at all, no need. We submitted just in case though I am sure - if D is lucky enough to be offered a place - we will be full pay and not get anything!

The counselor at my D’s school, as well as a number of the college info sessions we attended, emphasized to submit even if you don’t think you qualify for funding, because most colleges use them for merit funding too and often people don’t realize they qualify for something.

on my Albert, View Financial Aid Status page, it used to show “No Financial Aid information to display.”.
But now it shows,
