@cmhvisuals does it change again after ‘received’?
Do yall constantly switch from being super confident to incredibly anxious and unsure?
To add one note for the Tisch applicants (including myself), I heard that the slide room portfolio is assessed by the Tisch undergraduate while the CommonApp is assessed by the undergraduate admission office. Thats why portfolio is so significant in decision process. Even if the admission office really think you are qualified to be in, if the Tisch is not satisfied, the admission office will have hard time persuading the Tisch dep.
I applied for film for tisch, hbu?
@collegemaybeidk i applied film too!
I’m always fluctuating from really confident to really pesimistic between seconds lmao
I had talked to an admissions couselor about whther or not they had received my portfolio and beginning of november since i had submitted my app earlier but never saw a change in the website status since it said it was still awaiting, but only today was an update posted that it was received. They had told me they had everything a while back but only today was the update made which most likely means that they have their decision made.
I applied to Film&TV as well. If you submitted your ‘short film’ as the portfolio via YouTube, go to your youtube analytic pages. In the analytic pages you can see the traffic source, and ‘slide room’ pops up if they saw the video. It also shows the duration of ‘slide room’ visitors actually watching the video.
@Casebycase yes, that was what I was referring to. how long & how many times did they watch yours?
I don’t know why I cannot reply from your comments, but two times. One was for 3 seconds, the second one was solid 7 minutes from 6:53 long video
I’ve been checking the analytics page on my portfolio video (way too often), and they watched mine all the way through 3 times on 11/15, and then half of it again on 11/19. I wonder why they went back to it and if they’ll watch again. I’m low key obsessed with checking lol
@okisaperson they watched mine, the whole thing but like only once on 11/13 do you think watching the full length is like the protocol/just based on their interest?
I think its a protocol for the maximum length stated in the slide room. I am not sure why some of you submitted over 10 minutes of video…
@Casebycase - as I understand it, it’s the other way around. Tisch does an evaluation of the artistic aspect of your application and they send that evaluation to NYU admissions. Admissions makes the final call. Each piece - artistic and academic - is weighted equally so admissions to Tisch is 50% artistic and 50% academic. Usually there’s an option to declare a second choice school when you apply to Tisch. If NYU really likes you but your Tisch eval isn’t high then you’d likely be offered a spot in your second choice school at NYU.
@Casebycase no i mean are they supposed to watch the whole thing until the end? or can they watch only like half of it if they didn’t like it? i mean, no one would know, but are they like giving everyone fair treatment by watching the whole thing.
@CaMom13 how much do they consider your diversity, race, etc?
@natasha1313 - a LOT. NYU is serious about diversity. There was no “majority” ethnicity in last year’s admitted class and they accepted applicants from a huge number of countries and a large percentage (21%?) of the admitted class were Pell Grant recipients. The good news is it’s a really big school so plenty of students who don’t add much to their diversity stats (such as my middle-class, white, Californian daughter) were also admitted. But it’s definitely something they consider.
@CaMom13 i’m really confused about what to expect… i didn’t submit my SAT because it’s not good enough. My school doesn’t offer APs and no GPA, no class rank either. My transcripts’ average since freshman to junior year was probably 86-87/100 but the courses in my school (international) were not optional so i have to take everything (15+ lessons) i couldn’t get the average very high, because it was everything compiled into one average score including PE, arts, traditional language, etc which it was basically the norm that you can’t score more than 90. I’m really scared about how NYU will weigh in everything about my academics. I believe i am considered minority- southeast asian (cmiiw) what do you think?
@natasha1313 me too! I have a 3.789/4.789 gpa, 10 ap courses (passed all, mostly with fives), good clubs/leadership positions and good recs, but my sat score is a 1250 … I submitted ap scores too, but I would have two 5s and one 3 so I dont know how much that would help
@nyu2023 Don’t worry too much! I am actually on the same page as you. My SAT is the weakest part of my application! The emphasis of your SAT score really depends on what NYU school you applied to… however NYU is extremely holistic with its application process, so hope that should make you feel a bit of an ease~
