SO WAS I! I’ve been following this thread for awhile but I didn’t participate haha. Congrats all. Pumped to meet you guys in the coming fall! AHHHHHH!

I was accepted! Yay! Can’t wait to meet you all!

p.s. how much financial aid did everyone get. For some reason I only got $4,000. I realize NYU isn’t great with financial aid, but they didn’t offer me ANY grants whatsoever, and goshness knows I am certainly more than eligible for them. Is there something wrong, a mistake, or should I try to appeal for a bit more?

Regardless of the financial aid, I’ll be attending, and I can’t wait to see you all! Congrats to everyone!

i got rejected… congratulations to you all… :(

rejected- this sucks hahahah congrats to all though!

Accepted. Yay

Rejected! Even with the summer program! So, not too happy but life moves on. Congrats to those accepted!

Congrats to all who got in! For those who didn’t, you’ll find a better school for you, or you’ll get in as a transfer!

This is just a bump for someone to reply to my inquiry about financial aid, reply #143

General info

Gender: male

Transferring with an A.S.

Underdog factor: struggled with chronic Lyme disease during high school (I mention this in “additional information” to account for a lack of earlier ECs)

Honors

Honor Roll (all years of HS)

Dean’s List (all years of college)

Phi Theta Kappa Society (final year of college)

Sigma Kappa Delta (final year of college)

High school

Class rank: 10 in a class of 255.
GPA: 4.24
Highest SAT scores: 660 (critical reading), 540 (math), 660 (writing)

College

Degree (by the end of this semester): A.S.
GPA: 4.0

Letters of recommendation

The first letter is from my current Calculus teacher. She wrote the letter after I finished precalculus. I entered precalculus with a horrible background in math, but completed the semester with a near perfect A in the class. The teacher has told me I “think like a mathematician.”

The second letter is from the same English professor I’ve had for three (and now four) classes in a row. As far as I know, he thinks very highly of me.

Essay/personal statements

My essay explains my dual interests in philosophy and filmmaking and how I want to apply the former toward the latter. I’ve been working with an adcom through CC for a while now, and I’ve also shown it to my English professor; both thought highly of the end product. My personal statements demonstrate strong interests in filmmaking and philosophy. The third supplemental question demonstrates my unique interests in film (I reference an Andrei Tarkovsky film).

ECs

As seen on the common application: http://i802.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/albums/yy308/zachblaesi/ec1.jpg

Portfolio

Resume

Here’s where I’m lacking. I’ve been interested in film for about a year, but only recently did I start getting involved with film production.

I started my application with a brief indication of my academic interests to account for my diversified EC list (that I’m also focused on philosophy). The next section is listed as “Creative works/publications,” and it’s divided into “cinematography/filmography,” “Photography,” and “Creative Writing.” I listed one short film, a short I completed for a monthly challenge, and three shorts I produced for the Fine Arts Club. I mentioned three particular photographs I’ve put work into. And three works that were published in my school’s literary journal.

The final section includes brief descriptions of “notable extracurriculars.” It’s similar to my common application EC list.

Dramatic essay

A piece I wrote on my discovery that Santa Claus does not exist. This piece is comic in tone, but ends on a ponderous note.
