NYU waitlist 2024 (class 2028)

Based on NYU admissions Instagram, their deadline is still may 1st. So it might be safe to assume that the waitlist timeline will be the same as previous years.

I agree… if waitlisted early, updating monthly makes sense. If for RD then 1 update in April is probably the right amount. Or 2 if something worth noting did happen.

when do u guys think the first wave is coming out?

This week Friday or next week Tuesday maybe (usually those days, but every year is different). Honestly, idk. Literally a waiting game

all this waiting is actually tearing me apart :sob:

@user56112349 I know! I just want to find out one way or the other. The wait is killing me. I really hope the first wave is Friday…

So for the first wave do people get an email saying there’s an update? And does first wave simply mean students getting off the waitlist or are there also rejects?

waves are people getting off the waitlist. if you’re not off the waitlist then there will be no “rejection letter” except for an email that comes out when they’re finished that says that their spots are now full :frowning:

Tandon waitlisted

I have a question regarding the wl update. Do you have to rewrite the entire section for the academic achievements or can we just write one paragraph as a new update?

Every time you click “submit new” and write something it will be submitted as its own letter. So yes, everything is separate from the last.

Does that mean that if you receive an email from NYU saying that there is an update to your application, you are accepted ? Is it the same email we all received for normal decisions?

Yeah, I think receiving an email about a status update is most likely a letter saying you got off the waitlist.

hypothetical question, do u guys think that theyre going to accept more ppl off the waitlist because of all the protests in nyc?

I do but depends on the number of people who are spooked

I think they will accept some more…because the number of apps was actually slightly down this year 118k vs 120k last year. Yet they had the same acceptance rate of 8%…which, all things equal, would mean more spots available from WL (if their yield remained the same). Not by a ton… but still more open to WL. This is different than most other schools who still had higher application rates this year. I definitely think the crime/homeless problems in NY, esp near NYU played a part. It is not a great situation near NYU rn. There is a big homeless, drug, and mental health issue in wash squ park, which is basically ON the campus that is unsettling and unsafe. Perhaps the new protest issue also sways some candidates.

It does seem that less ppl applied this year…maybe because of the above? who knows.
