Mine is computer adventure games, preferably those involving castles, swords, and lots of sneaking and thieving. I’m ashamed to say I waste even more time on them than my kids do. Well, not too ashamed, because I’m still doing it. :)

But I don’t do it to the exclusion of all other things. I make a point of reading a book a month, something of literary of social value, so I don’t feel like a total waste of a brain.

You crazy parents. Sounds like you have some fun hobbies.

My mom’s is monogramming stuff. She got one of those fancy sewing machines with the brains of a computer last year or a few years ago and boy, she hasn’t looked back. Now it seems like almost everything in our house has a name, a phrase, a picture, or initials sewn into it. We’re not just talking soft duffels or tote bags either. Towels, pillows, tshirts, skirts, bags, travel mugs…you name it, she’s monogrammed it.

It’s entertaining to say the least. But she enjoys it and that’s all that matters!

Like so many of us on here, I read constantly. I am like jyber209- I have to have a book in front of me when I eat alone. I carry my Nook with me at all times and also have a real book around too. I also garden a lot. My husband says I collect trees. In the winter, I read about plants on line. I am planning to work on genealogy this summer. Years ago, I was really into it but that was pre-computer days. Oh and I love to travel.

I love genealogy. It turned out the area we moved to 25 years ago had been home to my husband’s great grandparents 80 years ago. I was able to locate their resting places, former business and loads of extended family.

When we are finished paying for college tuition, I would like to again pursue my other great passion, travel!

On average, I spend about 6 hours a week training in Aikido, which is a Japanese martial art. I encouraged my son to join when he was in 5th grade (I was worried about middle school). I thought if I joined when he did, he would be more likely to stick with it. He trained for 5 years, and then stopped to pursue other things in high school, and I kept going. I am so surprised that I love it, since I never did anything remotely physical my entire life. I have earned my 2nd brown belt, and hope to test for my black belt sometime later this year.

Spend way too much time on CC.
DH and I walk fairly regularly when the weather is good. I’m not one of those hardcore people pacing along under an umbrella!

I usually have a book going, almost always fiction. Sometimes I zoom through them in a couple of days and other times, they languish on the end table for weeks before I get back to them.

Both of us also like bluegrass/Americana music and going to music festivals. We get to enjoy the music and also the travel to wherever it is.

Our biggest “hobby” these days is the new home we just built that will eventually be our retirement home when the last kid finishes college. It is four and half hours fr. our current home so we are having a lot of fun with weekend trips there, choosing furniture, figuring out what to do with the vast wasteland that is our new yard.

Brainwashing small children - and I get paid for it too. Teach computer technology to grades K-5 and have never had more fun in my life. The programs are part of the benchmarks but the subject matter I use to teach it is up to me. Lots of geography (use excel to graph which country their clothing comes from, powerpoint to put together a trip around the world, etc) plus lots of ecological/environmental information.
Otherwise gardening, raising lambs, you know, the usual.

I’ve been doing ceramics for nineteen years. I’ve played piano for longer than that.

I’m on hiatus right now because ceramics isn’t the cheapest hobby in the world, and my piano is at my dad’s house because we live in an apartment. As soon as things get a little more stable, life-wise, I’ll pick everything back up again.

In a past life, I was a piano tuner. That was a fun hobby.

Wifely: exercising (yoga and spinning primarily) and hiking - last year Kilimanjaro, this year continue working on the 4000 footers in New England; I will tag along for those

Me:
1 - back into music: an occasional garage band and a one-off horn-based R&B band; also running a startup folk music coffeehouse in the ol’ home town
2 - playing softball in a senior softball league (2 games every Saturday AM)
3 - summer goal: start surfing again . . . no, not that computer stuff, I mean the real kind in the ocean, down in Rhode Island
