October Nor'easter with 10" of SNOW????

Bleh…in addition to the wet, heavy snow (temps are supposed to hover around freezing) wind is supposed to be in the 20mph range. We do have tons of leaves on the trees. They are saying this could cause more tree/power outage issues. After “Irene” a lot of tree trimming took place. I’m hoping we just get snow.

Ugh.

They upped us 6-12, too. I’ve got a few trees in my yard with no leaves but the big trees in front haven’t even turned color yet.

The title doesn’t look promising…

[Massive Power Outages Expected with Northeast Snowstorm](http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/news/story/57029/massive-power-outages-expected.asp)

Well, I guess I’m glad that we took our window AC units out and tucked them away for the winter.

My daughter is rowing in a regatta tomorrow afternoon where the snow is scheduled to start at noon. The location is 3 hours away in normal conditions, and I don’t like the idea of students driving the big passenger vans in less than optimal conditions. I’m hoping it is cancelled before they leave campus at 5:00 a.m.

Here in PA, where the forecast is now for 4-8", they are saying that because the pavement is so warm, there shouldn’t be problems regarding driving. The accumulation will only be seen on grassy areas. But still…

I was talking to clients in the northeast today about this storm, and it just annoys me how everyone acts as though midwestern winters are oh-so-much harsher than northeast winters. As someone who has lived both places, I think it’s six of one, half a dozen of the other. And it was Philly airport where I was stranded for three nights in Feb of 2010. Please! Temperatures are plenty fine out here and not a cloud in the sky!

Ugh…the thought of it when I haven’t even turned my heat on yet…as far as I know, it will be just rain and wind here in southern coastal NJ. The idea of still having my lawn cut, mums and pumpkins with snow on them is just plain wrong
Funny thing is , I just got rid of some of my hurricane Irene ice the other day
And the pool was just shut down a week ago

I just read that this is the 20th anniversary of " The Perfect Storm " !!

Well, NYS is activating it’s EOC so DH has to go back into the bunker tomorrow afternoon. I feel like he just got out from Irene.

A foot of snow mid-autumn is much worse than a foot of snow midwinter. In the Buffalo region 4 years ago our “October Surprise” happened with open autumn leaves catching 14" of heavy, wet snow like catchers’ mitts. I’ve never seen anything like it. Trees were all over the roads, cars dented in, people hurt and killed from falling branches and entire tree trunks.
This also happened on SAT weekend and the hardest part was figuring out if they’d be given at all. They weren’t – in a few counties around Buffalo AND some monsoon-hit regions of India.

If heavy snow is about to fall on your open-leaved beautiful autumn: I hope you can repark cars so they’re not under old, tall trees or power lines.

Printing out apps-in-progress is a great idea. Our power loss lasted 6 days, made worse because fallen trees impeded repair of powerlines. It was the way Vermont has looked this autumn, too many roads blocked and lots of limbs to be cleared, which all takes time.

Although we were declared a Federal Disaster Area, monetary relief was minimal because the damage was to trees much more than buildings and houses. It’s four years later and finally our region’s tree canopy doesn’t look like a Dr. Seuss book. Most of the trees have grown back but differently and without the magnificent symmetry of before.

Stay safe!

I can’t believe how hard it is snowing.

I think it’s got to be over an inch per hour – it’s sticking everywhere and has been for awhile. I went to grocery with flurries and came out to find my car covered.

Branches are bending over already – and maybe two inches of snow on the holly bush in front of my study … at least two inches on the back deck railing.

For reference – location is between the Merritt Parkway and I-84 in western Connecticut. They’re predicting 6-12 inches for us.

cnp, I’m up in northern CT (on “the Notch”)…snow just started here in earnest. I think we’re supposed to get 10+ inches. Strange to see snow on the mums in bloom. The PYO orchard across the street is losing a valuable weekend.

H went out for a run hoping to beat the snow…no luck there.

Snowing hard here also in southwestern ct - the streets and yards are completely covered.

Already have 3 inches on the ground…no idea about estimates because they only predicted 4 here in NJ…

What’s it like in lower Westchester?

Can’t be any better than here…we are only 35-40 min away

Swell. All I don’t need is any damage at my dads. What’s with all the whacky weather up there???

Watching it on TV from south of the border. It is sunny, 75. I am going to Maryland for a company team building event next weekend. I hope snow is melted and is warmer by the time I get there because we are doing quite a bit of hiking.

Stay warm and safe.

It started snowing here in north-central CT about an hour ago, but really picked up 20 minutes ago. The driveway is covered & it’s beginning to stick to the street.

NW (higher elevations of CT) reporting…it’s been snowing about 30 minutes. We have more than an inch on the ground already. Huge white flakes coming down…it looks like Christmas…only a little on the early side. Trees are already sagging. I decided to make my chicken now…we can always heat it up if we still have power…or we can eat it cold on a salad if we don’t.

Next up…a full pot of coffee for my pump pot…for tomorrow morning.

Trees are starting to pop. We have trees down in the driveway already – it’s a long one, 600 feet through the woods up a hill, to the road. It’s snowing very hard.
