Octogenarian romances? Who has had experience with this with their parents/in-laws?

I have not seen anywhere that Bob “does” apologies. It would certainly be an easier time for everyone if he did.

Is ANYONE on TEAM BOB?

Bob, and MIL for now.

Would it be nice if Bob was pleasant and gracious toward SIL? Yes.

Would it be nice if I won the lottery? Yes.

Both have about an equal chance of happening. Bob is >80 yr old, right? He’s not going to change. He was on his “good behavior” during the pre-wedding period and even then, he was overbearing.

Bob’s S is on “team Bob,” to the extent he will show up when summoned by Bob.

Listen, I think this entire trio is to blame for this situation- Mil, SIL, Bob. All adults, all seem to be terrible communicators. All seem to not really be empathetic people - that’s just a judgment based on what I’ve read here.

Without being an aware communicator and someone who has empathy and a real desire to fix a situation instead of “winning” none of them is going to step up and say, “can we take a step back?” Or “can we get a new start?” Or simply “SORRY”

Mil started throwing up last night after feeling nauseated most of the day. Two incidents. Happened again this morning, so they will not be coming today. Just didn’t want anyone waiting for an update when there will be nothing to report other than our barbecue and my dessert were yummy.

We thought it might be from all the medications she is taking for her back pain. But, since it happened again this morning, we aren’t sure??? I feel terrible for her as I know she’s disappointed. Plus, it’s no fun to be sick.

Oh, no. I hope MIL is OK. Also hope Bob will take care of her.

Me, too. I have offered to go to the store, but she says he can do it.

What I want to know is if he’s still going to go to the boat…

Well…that should be interesting!

She specifically mentioned they were down to two eggs. They intended to go to the store yesterday afternoon, but she ran out of steam. She apparently cooks him an egg every single morning.

This is how rigid he is in keeping to his routine. So, it isn’t necessarily about getting what she needs from the store; it’s more about what he needs. But, I do have an anti-Bob bias.

Not difficult at all to have an anti-Bob bias…

If MIL cooks the eggs every morning, and is too sick to do so, why bother buying eggs?

For when she’s feeling better.

Sincerely hope her nausea is short lived. Tell Bob to pick up some electrolytes when he gets the eggs. That’s two things Bob, I think you can handle it.

I mentioned Gatorade and/or Pedialyte.

I’ve offered more than once for us to go pick things up for them. She has declined.

Rightly or wrongly, I did ask if he were still going to the boat. She has not responded to that question.

It’s probably a stomach bug. But I have to wonder if the stress of worrying about the weekend Bob behavior is making it worse.

@Hoggirl : Is she able to keep liquids down?? Pain in the side plus vomiting could be a symptom of something significant. But if she’s keeping liquids down and seems to be improving, then it’s probably nothing.

ETA: I didn’t make up the pain in the side, did I? Now I can’t find where @Hoggirl mentioned it.

I agree that it’s important for her to go to urgent care or ER if she’s having trouble keeping fluids down, so she doesn’t dehydrate. I do hope she’s better soon.

If only MIL knew that strangers on the internet are giving her health advice….
