Octogenarian romances? Who has had experience with this with their parents/in-laws?

My son in law eats 3 eggs every morning, and will not share ‘his’ eggs for something like baking if he is getting low. Rigid. And age 32.

My friend I visited this summer makes 2 eggs every morning, one spoonful for the dog, one for the cat and the rest for him. Routine. Age 70.

Bob has so many faults I don’t think we need to assign more.

I don’t think anyone is faulting his egg routine - many people eat eggs everyday. For me anyway (and I think others) is that it’s a task that MIL has to do daily for him AND that seems to be first on her/or his mind when she is sick - omg, we only have 2 eggs left!

When Hoggirl first described the MIL/Bob relationship, she said they were like teenagers, acting silly, not wanting any others in their relationship unless they were very supportive. I’m sure MIL WANTS to make an egg every day and I don’t think it is unusual for the first thought of MIL, even when sick, is to think of Bob’s eggs (or Bob’s laundry, or Bob’s day on the boat). It is ‘young love’ and also very common for that generation to worry about the partner’s comfort first.

My father was an ass and my mother still did all the cooking, all the laundry, grocery shopping. He had six kids and never changed a diaper or watched us when we were little. I’m sure he never got up in the night. He was 20 when they got married, so it wasn’t like he was ‘set in his ways’ just spoiled by his mother (who had a husband who could cook and do chores, but they never made their sons do them).

I hope MIL is better to go on the cruise.

Sure, except is seems to be MIL who is doing all the worrying about Bob’s comfort. As is Bob. Not much reciprocation.

Yes, I think the lack of reciprocity is one of the major reasons many of us are not on Team Bob.

Anybody else wishing they could watch the marina to see if anyone shows up at the boat?

That’s what video camera’s are for!

Sil and dear nephew left about half an hour ago. Dh and ds are taking naps, and I’m hanging out with ds’s dog.

I directly asked this morning on the group if he were still going to the boat. Mil replied, “No. He thought he should take care of me.” No idea how much caretaking he actually did, but I’m very glad he didn’t leave her alone.

We had fine family time, but there was too much Bob talk, IMO.

We have not heard one thing from mil since 10:45 am. I’m resistant to texting her for fear she is sleeping. Though her notifications tend to always be off. And, she may not have texted us since she knew we were having family time. Sil will text me when she and dear nephew get back to their town. She may text that on the group.

I really hate that sil didn’t get to see her mother. I think we would both like to lay eyes on her. Although we briefly ran into them at the Mexican restaurant two weeks ago, we haven’t seen her moving around in over a month. We really had no idea how bad her back/hip pain has gotten.

It’s back and hip pain.

She is taking three medications for that (supposedly all prescribed my the same doc), and she received a cortisone shot in her hip yesterday.

My first thought…maybe she is having a negative reaction to the medications she is taking. OR isn’t paying attention to the directions (e.g. must take with food, or must not take within an hour of eating).

I do hope that Bob IS taking care of MIL! Fingers crossed she rapidly improves. I would get nauseous sometimes from sinuses and allergies too. It’s miserable!

I asked her if she was taking the Tramadol with food. She said kind of at breakfast and lunch, but a couple of hours after dinner.

My reading says it doesn’t have to be taken with food

You said she was taking three medications. Do any of them have gastro upset as a side effect?

Have you heard from her today?

This came from GoodRX online:

  1. Nausea and vomiting

Nausea and vomiting are also common tramadol side effects. This is because opioids may trigger areas in the brain that cause vomiting.

Nausea tends to get better on its own after a few days. In the meantime, if you’re taking tramadol on an empty stomach, try taking it with food. If nausea doesn’t improve or gets worse, let your healthcare provider know. There could be something more serious going on.

Mil is at the hospital. Bob took her to the ER this evening. They haven’t admitted her (yet), but I can’t believe they will send an 87-year old woman home.

She tried to eat a hamburger for dinner

I kind of feel like either dh or I should go up there, but we decided against it.

Oh no, hope she is okay.

Thank you!

I’m shocked, but they didn’t admit her. Gave her some IV fluids, a medication to stop her nausea, and a CT scan.

I think all of them have nausea as a side effect. She started one of them just a week ago. She takes Gabapentin (she’s been on that for a bit) and something eise. My reading says the combo she’s taking needs to be monitored closely. Hopefully, they can make some adjustments.

Glad they went to the hospital.
