***Official 2014 Siemens Competition Thread***

@FlyingWombat‌ Did they?? This year it says that regional finalists listings come out after semifinalists

I’m so nervous, but I’ve also got enough college app nervousness to make me forget about the stress of finding out from Siemens!

I’ve never applied for Siemens.

@FlyingWombat @adrenalinegirl‌ This year they are changing it up, releasing all 300 semifinalists on Oct 17. 60 out of those 300 semifinalists will be named regional finalists on Oct 20. I think it is just to add to the drama :>

@indianboy2400 I might be a girl, but gosh, I hate their idea of drama xD
I thought the release date is the 16th for semifinalists?

@adrenalinegirl My bad…yes it is the 16th.

@indianboy2400 well, that’s one less day of waiting then I guess.

Just out of curiosity, I’m not sure if anyone could answer this, but I was wondering what the caliber of the research reports are. When read, are they like official adult-written scientific reports or are they clearly written by a high school student? I’m not sure how/what they wanted, so I tried my best to sound science-y and formal.

@adrenalinegirl Yep. They might have changed this year.

@indianboy2400 I’ll probably also be submitting my project for Intel STS.

Since we are at the stage of the competition where research projects have already submitted, I was wondering if anyone would like to review my Siemens Abstract+Research Paper+References along with my executive summary. Just reply to me with your email and I will send you a pdf file of it. Also, just as a head’s up on my research the title of it was “Case Greenhouse Study: Agronomic Bio-Fortification of Forage Crops with Se-Enriched Soil.” And yes this is an environmental science project, which is one of the least likely picked fields, but this type of research appeals to me and I wanted to learn more about it.

Is the Executive Summary taken into account for the initial advancement to Semifinals?

@Mathemusician112‌ I don’t think so. 10 more days!

So if you eventually become regional finalist, do you find out you’ve become semifinalist on the 16th? There seems to be no overlap between the lists in past years.

Oh my gosh, just 10 more days? I think it’s scary that they are able to determine semifinalists and regional finalists in such a short period of time!
I’m not sure, @flyingwombat. Apparently it’s different this year, so I guess that’s a surprise for us too. I was wondering the same thing.

Does that mean that on the 16th, if we don’t see our name on the semi-finalist list, we have to wait till the 20th to see if we are a region finalist or if we didn’t place anything at all? That’s so nerve racking… Or do I have the entire thing wrong and they announce the semifinalists and pick the regional finalists out of the announced semifinalists?

9 days and counting! By the way, anyway planning on submitting their research papers to there regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium?

Also @hanjieun I am sorry but I am not familiar enough with the competition to answer that question, maybe @indianboy2400 can help you since they have previous experience with the competition.

@NIHHIHH‌ I submitted my projects last year to JSHS (made it to nationals) and the science fair (made it to ISEF), so I will probably do that this year too. PM me if you need any advice about these.

@hanjieun‌ I think that all of the semifinalists/regional finalists names will be released on the 16th as a semfinalist. On the 20th, 60 names from the semifinalist list will be released as regional finalists. That’s just my guess though

Anyone submitting to STS? The official thread can be found here: <a href=“***Official 2015 Intel STS Competition Thread*** - High School Life - College Confidential Forums”>***Official 2015 Intel STS Competition Thread*** - High School Life - College Confidential Forums;

@indianboy2400‌
I will probably submit for STS if I am named a Siemens Competition semifinalist or even regional finalist. Also, congrats on doing so well at JSHS. I’ll email my the address you gave me earlier for some expert advice. By the way, only 7 more days!

5 more days!

Anyone know how and where the results will be released?

online on October 16 I think

^^True dat

So Regional Finalists are chosen from the list of Semifinalists released on the 16th, right?
