***Official 2014 Siemens Competition Thread***

A list of 300 Finalists is released on Oct. 16, then from those 300 up to 60 are chosen as Regional Finalists while the remaining group becomes Semifinalists.

Check out the Siemens page on twitter at https://twitter.com/sfoundation</a> or their Facebook page this Thursday at 12 PM EST to see the results 2 hours early.

2 more days until results!

They said in the email that they got 1,780 submissions and that it was a record breaking number for them…I thought last year they got in the 1,900s, close to 2,000 submissions xD Maybe they re-used the same email, or I’m just imagining the stats for last year.

Good luck everyone! I’m quite nervous as this is my first Siemens competition, and I’m the first from my school to ever compete so we shall see…

@adrenalinegirl‌
Last year they recieved approximately 1500 applications with with around 1800 students. I am also scared as this is my first Siemens, and coincidentally last, competition, hopefully coming from the Georgia area will help due to the lack of applicants from my area. Two more days!!!

so scared >.< my work is mostly theoretical so I hope I can make it to at least semi finalist. well, if not I’ll pretend I was practicing for sat essay and writing as solace… yeah right:/. good luck guys! keep your fingers crossed

Wow! I didn’t think they got so many apps! My chances are even worse than I thought :(

I’m hoping for regionals, because last year I got semis, and I put much more work into this project. Oh, well, we shall see on the 16th, and then on the 20th.

Two more days! Good luck guys!

@NIHHIHH‌

I don’t think it works that way.

The initial judging according to their website works as follows:

Initial Judging
During the initial judging, only the Research Reports are evaluated. These Research Reports are judged solely on project merits. The initial judges do not have any information about you (name, gender, school, age, or state).

@adrenalinegirl @NIHHIHH According to the Siemens facebook page, there were 1,973 project submissions last year. Maybe the e-mail was just copied from last year with the number changed?

Regardless, I’m really scared for results tomorrow.

@landsharkk okay good, I wasn’t imagining things xD
anywho, with this amount of submissions, I doubt I got anything anyways, especially since I didn’t do research for a super long time and I had never written a paper before. I’ll still be checking at 12, but most likely, I didn’t get anything. Oh well, it was a good experience!

I am so scared. Less then 14 hours to go before they release the list. I just hope I make semifinalist because I spent my whole summer working on my research and winning this will help me feel better about my own scientific investigation ability.

I’m nervous, but not as nervous as I probably should be. Since finishing the paper, I’ve had other things to stress out about, plus at this point, it is what it is.

Best of luck to all who are waiting for tomorrow’s results! Even if you do not make the list, you should all be proud of completing a research project that well exceeds what is achieved by most high school students!

Good luck, guys! I wish there was a thread like this last year, haha. I was considering applying but didn’t muster up the motivation to finish everything before the submission date…

Hope you all have a reason to celebrate tomorrow!

1 1/2 more hours!

Is it out yet? I don’t see it on facebook.

Its out…I didnt even make semis :(

Damn. I worked my ass off on my paper this entire summer and didn’t even make semis. What a waste of the summer. Pretty bummed

Darn, I didn’t make semis either.

Any chance the regional finalists are listed separately from the semifinalists?

I doubt it… The list was longer than last years
