This is not a student only message board. It is only a couple kids that nag about this, it is open to everyone and the info parents post is helpful. And as you mentioned, parents are paying the bills. If it was shopping for a car, if the parent is paying for it, they have a lot of say. When the kid buys his own car they can have their own opinion (but will still ask good ol’ dad) on what to get.
These boards are indeed open to all, but stay on topic and don’t demean the contributions of the students. - FC
Two people on here both mentioned calling the admissions office and were told that they’re still reviewing applications and acceptances will be sent out on a rolling basis which I believe means they’ll be sending them over a period of time. Don’t lose hope!
Not sure if admissions is just giving a canned answer to appease people but I can only have faith that they are sending decisions over time. Anyone have insight based on last year’s decision process?
@Intrinsic I think you have been respectful and articulate. Many students have complained in the last few days about parents replying and arguing with students in these forums. Just not appropriate. It’s no ones business what your personal financial or families situation is but I applaud you for being independent. I really hope you make it into CalPoly, you seem like a great kid and they would be lucky to have you. Have faith and think positive
@Jimboboy I believe it depends on what you want out of a school. UofM is big and like UCB/UCLA research based, big classes. Cal Poly is smaller and probably has more professors teaching classes then grad students. My son appears to not have gotten into Cal Poly but was accepted to both Purdue and Rose-Hulman. We are looking at the same differences you are.
@yosemitelight Not yet. So far the emails have only been sent out to students after they got accepted. Acceptances are still rolling out as far as I know, so you haven’t been rejected yet
This type of interplay happens on many CC school forums at this time of the year. It’s a stressful time, far more so that when I went to college (back in 1910 ).
It really doesn’t have to be that way. It’s a false construct that all started when US News started ranking schools and hoodwinking us into believing that schools can be accurately and objectively ranked. They can’t.
When it’s all said and done, everyone will land somewhere. History shows us that 80% will be happy in retrospect, no matter where they went. The other 20% won’t. They likely wouldn’t have been happy anywhere, Poly, Stanford, Michigan, Yale or Podunk U. It is the way it has been. It is the way it will be. The portal will eventually become a yay or a nay. The vast majority will be happy in the long run either way.
@CalPolyCouple I’m a caucasian female too! A little lower ACT score, a little higher GPA. Only 5 APs and 3 Honors though. Maybe the acceptances will trickle down the next few weeks, maybe not. I can only keep my fingers crossed and hope there’s still a chance.
Congrats to you though! The CP engineering program is rather impressive so you should be proud!
