OFFICIAL Carnegie Mellon University Decision - Class of 2014

WTH? I had know idea CM decisions were already out. When I logged on, all I saw was little box saying:

1 MCS BSC Accept

So I guess I’m in? They could have told me in a less impersonal way…

On a side note, does anyone know the acceptance rate to MCS, or just CM in general?

That’s precisely why they state that they intend for applicants to receive decisions via mail rather than online.

Also, <a href=“Home - Computing Services - Office of the CIO - Carnegie Mellon University”>Home - Computing Services - Office of the CIO - Carnegie Mellon University;

So lame…I can’t check my decision online because I never received an application ID =(

@lainay: Did they tell you that you got into the Humanities Scholars Program online, or did you get your acceptance package in the mail? I was really interested in that program when I read about it, but it doesn’t say anything on my online status.

And I also plan to major in linguistics! I haven’t seen anyone else here with that intended major :)

@imbri3: It says nothing about it online. It is mentioned at the very end of my acceptance letter that came with my whole acceptance package, and then there was a separate sheet that explained it in more detail. GO LINGUISTICS!

@imbri3 @lainay I also applied and got accepted for linguistics! Woo! We should start a club :P

I’m also curious about the Humanities Scholars Program - I assume I didn’t get invited, but it sounds interesting! Yup, no mention of it in my acceptance letter. Oh well!

Jdong, this just shows how random this process can be. Your stats are phenomenal.

Decision: Waitlisted CIT
Stats:
* SAT I (by section): 770 CR / 800 M / 800 W (Superscored over two sittings; 2360 is highest single score)

What are your other schools? I cannot imagine ANY school not accepting you. Seriously. ANY school.

If these stats of admitted students are true, I am shocked to see less qualified students being accepted over my son, seemingly b/c of the race and/or gender.
Had to say it…

The stats don’t make the qualified student, Geekma92-- and if you think the acceptance was purely due to having a uterus or colored skin, you’re unfortunately mistaken. Everyone who was admitted fully deserved their admission and the university is confident they will both excel and contribute meaningfully to the university as a whole. Your post is derisive, and on a ‘congratulations’ thread, it’s very unkind and unwarranted. I wish your son the best of luck wherever he chooses to attend, nevertheless.

Ok, I already posted this elsewhere, but I think I might have some quicker, perhaps more-informed replies here.

My status page box looks like this:

Preference-College-Department-Program-Decision
1 CIT ECE Accept

This means acceptance into ECE, right? It doesn’t mean acceptance to CIT only, and not to the ECE… right? I would THINK that they say something else like, “Accept-CIT, Deny-ECE” if it had been otherwise. But then again, I read somewhere that you still have a chance to get in CIT if you get rejected from ECE. The question is, how do they differentiate the notifications? I really hope I got accepted into ECE.

I am only going to assume this is a disgruntled student …a new member with nothing to offer than a provocative bigoted/sexist comment.

Please let’s not turn this thread into a discussion on race and gender in admissions.

Admitted students at CMU are all amazingly talented, bright and work their butts off. The school focuses on building a student body reflective of the community we live - everyone quite qualified to be a Tartan!

@ldftalk

You got into the ECE program. You can do any program inside CIT including ECE. Congrats on the acceptance.

you guys all checked the “where am i?” page right? Iv been checking all day and nothing has changed. the box is still blank. any ideas?

This whole admissions process is stressful and feels very random sometimes. I guess it is important to note that each school is filling a class and they do not want to fill it with kids with perfect grades and test scores, they want an interesting blend - that’s what makes a class. They have seen something in each candidate they admitted that matters to that school. Since we do not have access to each student’s application, we cannot tell from their stats what that something might have been. Unfortunately if you are the student with near perfect scores rejected, it is hard to understand and hurtful. My son has been rejected when he expected to be accepted and vic versa so I know how it feels. I cannot wait until the last one is done and we can focus on his decision and he can go on to live his life!

I also seriously doubt I’d be able to afford CMU so I guess it was fun while it lasted!!

Crap, looks like I had really bad timing with this post :-</p>

Rissa: No worries. You sound like a girl I would like my white, over-privileged, adequately stat-ed son to meet :)

please help me people…when I trying logging into the admissions decision using my ID, last name, and birth date, it says error getting data! I can’t even log into the site! Does anyone know how I could fix this or what is going on?

Make sure that you entered your birthday in in the right format! (i.e. MM/DD/YYYY)

If you only have a two digit year entered, it gives you an error.

thanks, but yeah I do have the format right and it still gives me an error!

@collegekid2010 yeah i’m having a similar issue … when i press submit, it brings me to an error screen. oh well, i think i’m calling admissions tomorrow morning and i’ll let you know what happens.
