Comments: Very, very excited :)! Not sure if I’m going yet (still have 7 other schools to hear back from), but this is great news and, if I get a scholarship, would be pretty difficult to turn down.

has any one who was deferred heard back on a final decision?

Is the honor’s program only for las students or is it available to engineering students too?

Honors is just for LSA.

does anyone know how the bridge program works? do you have to notify them you are interested in it or do they contact you? could someone please explain to me how it works and who’s eligible? thanks!

I was admitted to summer bridge and the website says, " Bridge Program students have an excellent opportunity to strengthen their academic skills, develop a peer support network and to familiarize themselves with the campus and its resources. Bridge Program students are typically enrolled in an English course, a mathematics course, a freshman seminar and receive essential instruction about the UM computing environment. These courses are credit-bearing, academically rigorous courses and become part of the student’s official University of Michigan transcript. Also, Bridge Program students are assigned an academic advisor who will serve as their permanent advisor providing guidance on course selection, career planning, and progress towards fulfilling degree requirements."

It seems to me that the program was designed to help urban kids transition into college. I was “invited” to summer bridge in my acceptance email, but if I don’t attend or pass I can’t go to UofM. Most of the kids that were invited were minorities or had lower than average scores than those who were accepted. You also have to pay for the program, it’s a little more than $5,000, but you can get financial aid. Be sure to check out the website here: [Summer Bridge Program](http://lsa.umich.edu/csp/studentprograms/summerbridgeprogram)

You should just contact their office if you want to participate, it’s a learning community so I’m sure anyone’s free to join it.

that answered so many of my questions! thanks Aeriss.

Sorry, didn’t know how to start a new thread but does anyone know anything about the “top scholar” weekend for new engineering students? My DD got an invitation, all expenses paid, to spend a weekend on campus in Feb. Does this mean she is in some sort of scholar program or is this something offered to all new engineering students? She is so excited!
Thanks.

hello everyone!
so my friend and i were both deferred early action. however, she told me last week that she has an interview with michigan coming up. i was super surprised when she told me this and i immediately said that michigan never gives interviews. she seemed kind of caught off guard and quickly replied that her grandpa got her an interview and michigan wanted to talk to her more because they realized she has an insane amount of alumni from michigan which she apparently “didn’t know about.”
do you guys think she really has an interview? i have tried everything to get an interview with michigan and it is really clear that they do not do them often. i feel like she’s not telling the truth, but i thought you guys might know more about interviews at michigan than i do. has anyone heard of interviews being given?
thank you for the help! :)

Michigan does not have an official interview process. However, some alums volunteer as student recruiters. They represent Michigan at university fairs and at assigned high schools. Those alum student recruiters generally know people in the admissions and will occasionally recommend applicants they have met (either in one of their visits or through an informal meeting/interview) should they feel that the applicant will add to the campus community and is sure to attend if admitted. Those recommendations add very little to one’s chances. Interviews usually weigh very little, even at universities with official interview processes. In the case of a strong candidate, however, such a recommendation, if well written, could help a little.

has any one who was deferred heard back yet?

@suzzysunshine I really think your friend is lying to you. I also have a ton of alumni from Michigan and ties to the admissions department, and I tried but couldn’t score an interview. To top it all off, I was deferred EA too…

@mets I’m wondering the same thing. Has anyone heard back yet?

Hmmm, I actually know someone who graduated in 2010 who in fact, did have an meeting. I would think they are sometimes granted but generally there are circumstances surrounding the meeting. I’m not sure I would even classify them as an “interview.” In this case, there were some unusual circumstances. I do not think these meetings bear much weight as an admissions tool but are done as a deferential gesture for one reason or another. The person I know was very well qualified to attend UofM and would have been admitted with or without. It is not outside the realm of possibility that someone wanted to meet your friend, Suzzy.

Chances are decisions will start being released this friday!

does deferred come back the same time as regular descision?

was the meeting you refer to with the actual admissions office or with an alum? This sounds very unusual if it was the admissions office-was this the child of very wealthy potential or actual donors?

the wait is killing me haha

Got in today after being deferred for EA! so happy :)
