*Official Class of 2016 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread*

Got deferred… the email said “Strong fall semester or second trimester grades may enhance your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward your fall semester or second trimester grades when they become available.” Was kinda expecting to get denied though, so I’m not too upset (I don’t have the greatest test scores)

how to do confirm your deferral?

who here is still waiting ?

I am waiting

I am, along with 5 other friends I have. :(

EVERYONE WAITING JUST RELAX!

this is coming from a 2015 accepted student.

1. michigan RARELY rejects anyone in EA. unless you KNOW your not qualified and admit it, you will NOT get rejected. ex. (2.7 gpa, 1800 sat). but most people here have a 1900 + and 3.4 + which is still very competitive.

2. if deffered, you still have a GREAT chance to get in. A LOT of people get deferred. actually about like 70%. and A LOT of people got accepted as a deferred student.

3. DO NOT compare yourself to others and predict your decision based on that. michigan is a PUBLIC school. from first hand experience, i have seen some of the STUPIDEST kids who i think belong in community colleges. some kids will simply get in with horrible statistics. call it luck but it happens. This isnt an ivy where the “best” gets in. its completely RANDOM. iv seen kids admitted with 2.9 and horrible essays and 4.0 kids with 2300 sat + get rejected. its RANDOM.

4. the admission system SUCKS, no lie about it. read about it from last year, gave a lot of kids headaches. however, kids get have gotten ACCEPTED on the last day before. its random.

so dont lose hope guys! remember, this is ONLY EA. this is not the end of the world.

****. I got deferred.

lindsy- what did your deferral message say? did it say to forward fall semester grades like Undeclared above?

deferred
3.5 gpa/ 30 act
good unique essays/ strong ecs

If acceptances were yesterday and deferrals are today, does that mean rejections are tomorrow? If that’s the case, I’m screwed.

The good news is that there is still time to do one or two more applications and really focus on the essays, making them particularly germane to the school itself, what you have to offer, how you expect to fit in, and how that school really meshes with your own view of what you want to accomplish. Duh, I know, but how many really wrote essays like that? And who wants to apply to any more schools? Still, that option is there for less than $150 and the investment of a little more time in the next couple days. Some have Jan. 15 deadlines, some rolling admissions.

Still Waiting…

Deferred. OOS with a 3.8 GPA W and a 31 ACT. Hispanic with good extracurriculars and essays. I’m not too surprised though because my course rigor is pretty low. Are the chances of being accepted off of a deferral really low?

Dear Lindsey:

After multiple individualized and comprehensive evaluations of your application to the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology for Fall 2012, we believe that you have something uniquely valuable to contribute to our campus. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, your application has been deferred for a final decision until a later date.

Your application will be re-evaluated, and a final decision will be made based on how your credentials, academic achievements, and interest demonstrated in an area of Kinesiology as a career contribute to the composition and quality of this year’s freshman applicant pool. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than mid-April, 2012.

We hope your interest in Michigan continues, and you have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful senior year.

Sincerely,

Theodore L. Spencer
Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director
