OFFICIAL National Merit Semifinalist Cutoff Scores 2007

So is New York’s cutoff 219? Or is it less and a 219 is a semi?

So, if a cutoff score is say 207 that means that you had to get a 207 or higher to make semi, right? In other words, if you make the exact score as the cutoff, you still make semi?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, if the cutoff is 207 and you have a 207, you will advance to become a semifinalist.

AZ <= 214
AR <= 201
CA = 217 -2
CO <= 215
FL <= 212
GA <= 222 (sorry this isn’t much help- last yrs cut was 218)
IL = 213 -5 (huge drop, this is questionable)
IN <= 214
LA = 207 -2
MO <= 221
NY <=219
OH <= 211
OK = 207 -1
TX = 215 -2

We found out today. Ky curve for this year is 208. It dropped 4 points. I got 222 though so I was mad a lot more kids got it in m school we have 39.

jojodevka - I got in w/ a 219. That doesn’t mean that a lower score wont make the cut, its just that 219 is the lowest score we’ve heard so far that DID make the cut. For all we know, a 218 or 217 might me good as well.

Can someone confirm that the cut off for LA is 207? I got a 207, and today many people I know at my school who got a higher score than me got a note from the principle saying to meet her tomorrow in her office. They told me it was probably about National Merit. Unfortunately, I did not get a note…

Has anyone else from TX with a score of 215 received notice of semifinalist status? My son scored 215 and hasn’t heard anything. His school has not had a qualifier in recent years, has a new principal, and 3 of 4 counselors are new. I know they have a huge backlog of mail and aren’t watching for something from NMSC. Thanks.

My son said he knows several people from AR who got a 202 but did not make it, so the 201 for AR may be inaccurate.

Randman - I don’t think anything is official in any of the states. Pretty much “word of mouth” at this point.

nothing official from the school here in Texas. School just started and it may be a while before they wade through all the mail as well. If we have not heard anything by the end of the week, I will probably email the counselor and ask her if she has any word. It is not even the official “release” date, so I doubt there will be a big rush on it, even though the school usually has several commended, and a semifinalist every year.

Take these numbers with a grain of salt. There will likely be corrections along the way.

AZ <= 214
AR <= 201 (questionable)

Connecticut: Confirmed today with the high school guidance department that my daughter made it with a 221. Could be lower but 221 or better makes the cut.

Wemel: I saw that you wrote that you heard the LA cut off was 207. Just curious, but did you hear this from someone who actually got notified who had a 207? Thanks

My guidance counselor told me 213 in Illinois is the correct cutoff.

My son’s guidance counselor says the cutoff for AZ is 211.

Can someone remind me what was different about this year’s test that made it more difficult?

^ The PSAT writing section changed from being like the SAT II writing test to being more like the writing section on the new 3-part SAT. Scores on it are generally lower (I don’t know why) which caused the average 3 point drop in PSAT scores for 2006 PSAT takers.
