I go to a school in Florida, and although I am not in suspense(I got a 229) it would be nice to be able to work on the finalist application as soon as possible? Did my principal already get it and is just sitting on it? or is it possible it hasn’t gotten there yet?

Anyone hear from MA?

Just spoke to a parent of a sr who got a 215 and made NMSF here in GA. So am updating the list for GA

AZ = 211 -3
AR <= 201 (questionable)

FL <= 212
GA <= 215 -3

Had a meeting at our school. Miss dropped 2 points to 202. We are usually the lowest and commended is usually 1 points below us. I bet it will be 201. I think the Ark. person might be talking about commended.

To the Florida folks: I happened to be in DD’s guidance office yesterday and asked her counselor when they would notify the students of NMSF status. The GC insisted that those notifications don’t arrive until October. I insisted to him that schools had been notified as of last week and he gave me a condescending look basically of “You’re nuts and don’t know what you are talking about.” Pffft! Later in the day, my DD asked another GC and she was told that they would be notified in the next day or two, possibly even tomorrow (now today!). I’ll post if we hear anything.

My son inquired (IA) because the principal was muttering something about doing his rec letter and he hadn’t asked him to do one. He went to the guidance counselor who told him it was for NMSF and it was supposed to be confidential until Sept. 12. i don’t think she will give him the packet until then, although it would be nice if he had it to work on over labor day weekend and before he starts getting more homework. GC said all materials would be due by October 12, so i can’t imagine anyone has to wait until Octover to find out.

Just wondering … what’s the point of sending information to the schools around the 21st of August if not for the schools to give the info to the student? Waiting until September 12 makes no sense except for schools that don’t start until well after after Labor Day.

Take these numbers with a grain of salt. There will be corrections along the way.

AZ = 211 -3

Link to previous year’s cutoffs. Beware, the list is missing updates and there may be errors:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showpost.php?p=2993607&postcount=662</a></p>

I am not sure that the schools are actually required to keep the information secret from the actual recipients (although that’s what our GC said she had to do). I can understand that NMS may want the cutoff itself kept confidential so each school can inform its students (or not, in some cases). and students don’t just figure out on their own whether they made it or not(as here on CC). I can also understand their not giving out the names themselves, for the same reason. But it makes no sense for the schools to keep the semi-finalists in the dark, once the information is out there. Let them begin getting the necessary paperwork together. We here in WV have already started school, so that is not the problem here.

Even worse, I can’t even find out LAST year’s cutoff (not many take the PSAT here) so have even less of a clue what it might be this year. So, unless someone else from WV posts, we will be waiting two more weeks.

deepsouthmom,

The cutoff for commended is the same in all states, unlike the cutoff for semi-finalist. This year the commended cutoff was 200, which was announced several months ago.

I think a 5 point drop to 201 in AR would be possible (a 2 point real drop + the 3 average point drop due to scoring), but post #111 says 202 did not make the AR cutoff.

Added the change from previous years for AR and MS

Bummer that WV scores from last year were never posted… but if you look at the previous years on this link you could likely draw some conclusions as to what it might be:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showpost.php?p=2993607&postcount=662</a></p>

(I couldn’t get the link in the other posts to load… it seemed to be missing the series of numbers in the middle… so I went and found it via search)

Still no word here in Washington State. My S has emailed his counselor trying to find out something but she’s been busy trying to fix all the screwed up class schedules for students (my son had two classes 1st period and none 6th!) and hasn’t been super responsive. School starts here after Labor Day, so I figure he’ll have to wait until September 4th at the earliest to find out.

Did anyone get the cutoff for NJ?

215 definitely makes it in Texas. Got a call from my child and he has the packet in hand.

It is supposed to be confidential except for semifinalist, family, and school. The actual packet gives the proposed deadline to finish student’s part and hand to prinicpal to finish as Sept 12th, so they could not have meant to keep it from student. Sorry quote did not get included. This is to answer those who guidance counselors think they don’t hand out packets until Sept 12th. Tell them to read the packet and see for themselves as they are disadvantaging the student by keeping the info. until Sept. 12th.

congrats, shutterbug. And DVU 1990, I certainly sympathize with the scheduling problem. My D started school without a new class that was required starting this year for graduation- guess nobody counted the seniors. All fixed now, but makes one hesitant to rely on school personnel for things that are so important- with deadlines-- like this.

The problem with the really small states (in population) like ours is that the scores can jump a lot more than in the large states, so even though the last score from WV was only a 206 (two years ago) it had jumped 4 points that year.
