Official Stanford 2014 Waitlist Discussion

The admissions office must be getting pretty close to contacting everyone, since The New York Times had an item in it’s Education section yesterday stating that Stanford had told the reporter that they “may take 26” students off the waitlist. That sounds awfully precise, doesn’t it, compared to “20-30” students (though of course consistent with the prior estimate)?

Best of luck to everyone–the wait is almost over!

Well it might be today but I think I’m too scared to find out! Gahh :(

This is it! Good luck everyone!

There will be 26 admits from the waitlist and everyone will be informed at 5pm PST or a little later today.

"Later this evening, May 13, we will admit 26 students from the freshman waitlist to meet our target of enrolling 1675 freshmen this fall. Students will receive an email notification after 5pm (Pacific Time). Also at this time, we will communicate with all of our applicants holding a space on the waitlist, to provide them with an update on their waitlist status.

We thank all of our applicants for their patience during this time."

Edit: Just wanted to say iBleedCrimson’s prediction was indeed correct–7pm CDT. Crazy good skills right there.

I wish everyone the best of luck!

@harvard17: I’m from Thailand. How about you?

@themust OMG… Sawasdee kap! I’m from Malaysia! XD

Oh crap…

“I am writing to update you regarding your status on our waitlist. We were recently able to offer admission to 26 students from our waitlist and those candidates have already been notified by email. Although we were not able to include you in that group, we would like to keep your application on a shorter waitlist for future consideration. Because we expect some of our peer institutions to make offers of admission from their waitlists, and because not all those recently offered admission may accept their place in the class, the possibility still exists that space may become available at Stanford for this fall. We are retaining fewer than 100 students on this shorter waitlist.”

:'(

How’d everyone else do?

Nada for me.

*"I am writing to let you know that we will be unable to offer you a place in the incoming class at Stanford University. I wish I could be writing with better news; it is unfortunate, and truly our loss, that we cannot offer admission to more students from our exceptionally talented applicant pool.

We appreciate the thoughtfulness and care that went into your application and want to assure you that your candidacy received thorough and serious consideration. This decision should in no way detract from the very impressive credentials that you presented; due to the large number of applications that we receive for a comparatively small incoming class, we must unfortunately disappoint the vast majority of our applicants each year."*

Well…there’s always graduate school! :D

nope for me either…

i got on the extended waitlist…they say there are less than 100 kids on it and that they pull from it if any committed student decides to accept a waitlist offer at another school or if one of the 26 doesnt accept. does anyone know how many people have been accepted off the extended waitlist in the past? doesnt seem likely…

has anyone not gotten an email yet?
because i haven’t…this happened on RD too, but with a different email…its soooo annoying!!

Extended waitlist as well… :/

denied. I can’t understand what I did wrong

i got in!!!

Well, if the Admissions Officers look at your Facebook, I’ll blame my profile picture.

Making fun of Android probably wasn’t the best choice…

^ Congrats eaten!

Congrats eaten!

And so the wait continues, huh Leidolon =P Aaaaarg.

@tibet - I went through the same thing when I got rejected. I couldn’t understand how what I did in high school wasn’t good enough for a school. I felt like the rejection was really personal. I applied early so I didn’t know about my other acceptances and it really brought me down. With time though, I realized that Stanford isn’t the only school in the world and that I could be happy at other places. I got accepted to all of my other choices, and I can’t really complain. Even if I were only accepted to one of my other choices, I would be happy because it’s not the school that makes you who you are. You make the school what it is. Take your talents elsewhere and embrace the fact that you are attending an amazing school, as I’m sure you are. In conclusion, nothing “went wrong.” Stanford is just not right for you. I know this is hard to believe - trust me, I LOVED Stanford, but it’ll blow over.

Yeah, meygan28, our perpetual purgatory continues! :P

^ heg123, last year 42 students were accepted off of the extended waitlist (the class of 2013 was the first to actually use a waitlist in a long time), but I’m guessing there’s going to be a considerably smaller amount of students admitted this year.

Semi-on topic, going from the the 26 waitlistees admitted for a class of 1675, Stanford’s yield this year has so far been 71.7%.

Anonymous93, you are so nice to come to this thread to console other people even at this late date. I really wish you were coming to Stanford. Which of your many other wonderful choices won you over?
