Y’all are making me go look up some of the events I’ve missed. So fun! Did anyone see breaking? Just watched a bit of windsurfing–looks a lot different than I usually see!

Oh I am so thrilled for Jade Carey. Simone is no doubt the best in the world but they all work so hard and so much spot light has been on Simone.

It was nice of soccer to end regulation just as Simone was up! My remote is getting a workout!

Femke Bol is beast mode!! Her specialty is actually 400 hurdles. Amazing how fast she can run when there are no obstacles to jump over.

So, back to Nadia Comenichi and how graceful she was compared to the current gymnasts. I had lunch with a friend today that was a gymnastics high school coach. Trained her daughter who later was on the Cornell gymnastics team.
I mentioned my observation to her and she said I was absolutely correct. Back then the Eastern European countries made their gymnasts take ballet and be proficient in that. That ended in the 80’s. She said today’s gymnastics are all about power. It’s a completely different way for the sport now.

She also said the routines are much more difficult like someone mentioned above.
For some reason I can’t post a YouTube link. Look up Olga Korbut dead loop. Her uneven bars routine would have been crazy difficult even by modern standards. I think that’s about the time when the switch away from artistic elements started.

I think it changed with Mary lou Retton. She was all about the power.
Same in figure skating when they got rid of the figure 8 part and went for the triples. Both are good, but it is more fun to watch the triples.
