Official Summer Olympics 2024 Thread - LIVE SPOILERS!

Yep- they just said it’s the clavicle, not the feet. Didn’t know the specifics.

That’s why you see runners lean forward at the finish line. Looks strange but that’s how races are won! :trophy:

I am so glad that Lyles backed up all his talk. I had a friend who knows how much I love the Olympics text me whether T&F always has been so theatrical! lol

Any update on whether the guy who is a twin who were both adopted out of foster care made it, with his time, into the finals? Thats what it will take (he came in 4th in his heat).

Boo at the commentators for not celebrating that the bronze in the 100 went to our sprinter, too! Fred Kerley.

Okay does anyone know why the beach volleyball players are not 100% covered with sand? Do they wear some kind of repellent?

Dude at least looks good landing the win after all the showmanship just before the race.

Did you all see that hump he did before they started - side needs to be in another jumping event - like his feet were on springs!

I respectfully suggest a different emoji given the circumstances…

The swim leg of triathlons is always a crapshoot. I was happy when little kid stopped doing them. Once during a local race, the athletes had to swim through a big gaggle of Canada geese and mallards. Yuck!!!

Agreed no one should poo-poo the importance of the venue and the conditions.

In 1904, after the St. Louis games, 4 people died after swimming in a cow pond!

Are you sure, that sounds like BS.

I can do this all night.

trying to think of a pun with the word stool…

All kidding a$$ide, not only are there stomach bugs going around, but there is a LOT of COVID, and I’ve seen no one at the olympics wearing a mask!!

Aussie swim coach has been wearing what looks like a KN 95 mask! :mask:

Some of the athletes seem to be wearing masks into/out of venues, but not many others (I saw a few swimmers wearing them).

Some of the elite athletes (those with money) aren’t staying in the athletes’ village but on their own. However, at least for track they must arrive at the venues in a team bus so it seems like even if they are staying in a nice, clean sanitized room, they still have to mingle with the masses for at least a short time. Of course the swimmers live in chlorine, so should be nice and sanitized.

I don’t think this is all that uncommon. I remember hearing about athletes at other Olympics who did not live in the Olympic Village.

Every Olympics comes under scrutiny. Remember Japan’s cardboard beds? The article below shares some of the complaints about the Paris Village.

LA28’s Village will be at UCLA. Athletes will sleep in dorm rooms on The Hill. A large percentage of UCLA’s dorm rooms do not have air conditioning. I wonder if they will change that before 2028.

Finally saw the medley relays! The men did great but the women were absolute stars! So happy that Lily King gets her well deserved medal of these Games and is now a part of WR tteam… well, until that record gets beat by another team.

Can’t sleep so caught the archery final. That was awesome.

And I caught the Americans medal in an event I didn’t know – mixed triathlon. Such a long event, but the top three finishers finished one second apart.

The question now is do I go back to sleep or sty up for gymnastics???

The Israeli athletes were escorted to each event by elite guards. I’m not sure where they slept.
