***Official UW Class of 2021 Acceptance Thread***

How can I see my unofficial transcript. I’m OOS and I got into UW on 3/16 and got my acceptance package on 3/19 but I’m still waiting on the Honors College.

@purple21_ yes, it was in the letter. I have a 4.13 W and 3.92 UW GPA with a 32 ACT and I received a little under $5,000 from the purple and gold scholarship.

lol I know I’m 98% not going to UW but I still come back to this thread

I got my acceptance letter today and under the major it says Business administration. Does this mean DA? It doesn’t say it directly so I was kind of confused. It also says the department will be contacting me directly.

@NarwhalNoah Congrats!!! I think that means DA to foster!

Dang…the letter came today and it says “pre-engineering.” No DA. Cal Poly looks a lot more appealing now. Rejected from JHU, Northwestern and no DA at UW. My poor daughter is getting pretty tired of all the rejection. It is rough, because we should be feeling happy about Cal Poly or just getting IN to the UW, but all the applications and writing were a lot of work.

What are the chances of not being able to get into the major you want when it comes time to declare a major?

@lulu7575 depending on the major, I know business/engineering are highly competitive. My friend at uw told me the admit rate for Foster for the fall quarter (including DA and regular admission) was 15%, for other quarters i think it was higher (probably 30%-40%?) since less people applied. You can apply as long as you finish the pre-reqs.

Depends on major. It’s difficult to get into cs and applied math. I think you need over 3.7 and that’s roughly a 94 out of 100. Statistics is around 3.4.

That’s what really scares me, I don’t wanna go to UW for 2 years, spend all that money, and then not get to major in what I want

It is very risky. My son is a sophomore there and my daughter just got accepted pre science. My son originally wanted comp sci but now is going to major physics. He will also try for statistics. My daughter on the other hand, I’m confident the risk is much lower for her.

Both are headed in the data scientist route, and the reality is you can reach that with various majors.

My daughter got into ucsd applied math so she has a tough decision to make if it comes down to these two schools.

Woohoo! Direct Admit into CS!! I just got my FAT letter.

@Jliu32472 I want to do comp sci too but I’m so scared I won’t get in. Currently though I haven’t gotten in anywhere else besides SCU. If I do have to go to UW I’ll probably try to transfer out to a UC in a year

Transferring into cs at a UC is NOT easy. Changing major at a UC is even harder than at Udub. Are you the type of student who works and studies hard? Are you confident you can be in the top 20% of your class?
My daughter is the extremely hard worker while my son does just enough to get by. My son says the classes aren’t hard and now realizes what he needs to do. So as long as you are confident in your study habits the risk shouldn’t be too bad. This isn’t like mit where the classes are incredibly hard. Put in the effort and you have a good chance to succeed.

Honestly, I try but I struggle to be on top of things, just can’t focus I guess, I tend to do good on tests and stuff though. But that’s why I’m really scared about the whole apply for you major later thing

Has anyone’s transcript said “pre” but their congrats letter indicated your choice of major?

Also realize that udub is on a quarter system. If you aren’t used to it, it might seem a bit fast paced.
Hate to say it, but if you go to udub, your first year is incredibly important. If you are mature enough to really understand that, I’m sure you will do fine.
Btw, udub gives credit for your APs but they do not go towards your gpa there. One way to boost your gpa is to take those classes again at udub. You will have already learned the material so it should make the class significantly easier to get 94+.

@math3matical Did your transcript always say CS?

So is double majoring less common at UW?

BTW guys, how will we come to know honours college decision?
