I’m pretty sure if you get accepted by the department, you’re in. If you don’t get admission from general but get admission through the department, you’re in. (general admission does not matter at that point because you already got accepted into their department)
But if you get admission from general but not through the department, you will be admitted without a major, which would not have a complete point to it since you’d have to reapply to a major if you choose UW.

I’ve heard of people getting denied from gen admission but getting into their major. There are also previous threads on this site where that happened to some. I think it’s unlikely and if it did happen you would have a great appeal for gen admission.
My major acceptance email said that admission to the major was contingent on gen acceptance.
A few of my friends are transfers and their advisors were informed that general admission does not matter if you get into the department, so you do not have to appeal for general admission.
Getting into an department is more complicated and harder than general admission, so it makes sense that if you were to get admission to the department but not general, you still can go to UW

@FakeNerd from my understanding chicgeek9 is correct. Usually, if you get into your major, you get into UW via general admit as well, however (i’d say RARELY) you can get into your major but get rejected from the school. Admission to your major is contingent to getting admitted to the school. Theres a very very very small chance of you getting into your major but the school rejecting you, which is what I think the other poster was talking about.
yes!^, you probably will get admission to general admit if you got accepted to your major, but if you don’t in some weird case, you do not have to write an appeal towards general admission.
department admission already gives you admission to the school & to the major. whereas general admission only gives you admission to the school.

departamental admission into your desired major DOES NOT give you admission to UW. Acceptance from general admission lets you attend UW and take all the undergrad classes you may want or need for your major for which you will apply for later. Usually then, after you have completed 2 years of prerequisites, you will apply for your desired major from a specific department. If they accept you into that major, you will have access to take their upper level classes, labs etc… Since we are all applying for transfer, being rejected by a department is not the end of the road because you can still get into UW via general admission. So if you get rejected by general admission and want to attend UW, you MUST submit an appeal because being rejected means you won’t be able to attend UW and departmental admission acceptances ( as @chicgeek9 said, is contingent on general admission acceptance).
Just checked my UW CSE portal where I filled out the department application and I got rejected ?
Haven’t gotten any email yet but UW was my top choice so I’m really sad. Can’t say I didn’t expect it though being a four year transfer student even if my GPA was high.

it did not matter to my transfer friends, as they took all their pre-requisites at a community college and are ready to take the major requirements in order to graduate within the department.
that definitely makes sense where you are transferring and may be taking undergraduate courses!
Anyone knows when will foster school release their decision?:))))))

@LazyDizzy someone on reddit said they e-mailed Foster and the decisions have been pushed back from May 25th to “June”.

I also heard from the Foster that they said the WSA score would be available on June 1st.
I suppose it should also be the date they will release the decision.
Just found out a couple hours ago that I’ve been accepted into UW Seattle for fall 2020! I got accepted into my major (Speech and Hearing Sciences) about a month ago as well. I was definitely not expecting to hear back so soon. Good luck y’all! 
OMGGGG just found out I got accepted into Foster!!! I only had the acceptance letter from the general admissions tho but I checked my unofficial transcript and it loaded as major: BUS ADMIN (FINANCE)!!! Didn’t expect it to come out this early!

Yes it loaded! I didn’t receive an email about it tho but when I checked my portal it said congratulations!
I also just found out I got accepted to UW- Seattle! My major acceptance letter came 4 days ago but I didn’t expect to hear back from the general admission this soon! Good luck to you all!
