Official UW Transfer Thread 2020

@theonlyryan @imkuizxx Allen School for CSE specifically. I emailed them and NOT UW Undergraduate Admissions. Honestly, the department determines if you get in the major and the school. The way they phrased it gave the presumption that all CSE decisions were going to be out by May 11. Maybe rolling within the next few days?

Last year most decisions actually came out on June 7th so the fact that they told me much sooner surprised me.

@tasha1508 thank you! I wish foster decision could come out soon as well.

okay, so this might be a dumb question but, on my application i requested a major (micro bio) but didn’t actually apply to my major… would that make me a general admit?

@kechat i also applied to microbio!
Since it is a minimum requirement major, as long as you have taken the general bio sequence prerequisites and one of their chemistry classes prerequisite, as well as maintain their min GPA for those classes, you will get admitted into the major (hence you don’t apply to the major). If you haven’t taken all those classes yet, you’ll just get into pre-sciences. This and you have to meet with the microbio advisor, which I’ve been meaning to call and ask about…

@Seam95 Thank you!

I just emailed them to see what will be the latest notification period: Transfer applicants will be notified of an admissions decision throughout May and until June 30th. Unfortunately, while we are trying our best to release decisions as soon as possible, we cannot provide an exact date because we are waiting for the response of specific majors/departments first.

I applied to stats major but not directly apply to the major because some of the pre-req classes don’t offer in my cc. Does anyone knows what would be the premajor for stats?

@huskyheart31 I’m assuming your pre-major would be pre arts and sciences, since the stats major is offered from the school of arts and sciences.

Also based on the email you posted, does that mean most people aren’t going to be notified until June (since isn’t that when Fosters decisions for transfers comes out)?

@UW10111 Thank you for letting me know stats major is offer under school of art and science.

Yes I think admission office will process foster applications after Foster make their decisions. Based on last year’s transfer thread, some foster applicants got their unofficial transcript load on May.20th.

One week past and still no one get their decision ??

i know! i think it’s strange that nobody has heard anything really!

@sullengrl probably not very strange. The first one that posted decision last year was on May 20th.

First transfer decisions are out for INFORMATICS majors! Not my major, but I’m glad some people finally heard some news! Hopefully next week a few more departments will release their decisions. The transfers accepted into informatics haven’t been notified if their general application has been accepted as well, so they’re kinda still waiting…

Their admission is contingent on being accepted for general admission, and they need to notify the info department by May 15th if they want to go, so May 15th seems like a good guess for a target date for gen admission.

Hi,
I am an international transfer student, applying for Autumn 2020 in electrical engineering. I just got accepted into the department (the email came at 5pm). They said I needed to respond by May 14th. Also I’m still waiting for the general admission.

@hthanh2712 congrats!!! I’m sure you’ll get through gen admission. Hopefully they’ll start notifying people early next week!

@hthanh2712 Congrats!!! What’s the difference between department admission and general admission?

@theonlyryan Big difference. I was accepted into the Chem department on April 21 but I still haven’t heard back from gen admission. I can’t register for A&O so it’s a waiting game. Theoretically it’s possible to get into a major but not into the university.

@theonlyryan General admission is getting into UW itself, whereas department admission is getting admitted to a major (assuming its a capacity constrained major where they only let in so many people). A lot of majors have let people know who has been accepted, but no one (that I know of lol) has been admitted via general admission yet.

So anxious…

@chicgeek9 Oh darn, the general admission can still reject you if you’re admitted by department? What will happen if that happened?

Hi,
I am an international student who studies in WA state college. I also have received the acceptance letter to my major but have not heard back from the general admission. However, in the letter of acceptance, it indicates I need to accept my offer before the middle of May. I wonder if my general admission will base on this?
