We lost Alex Trebek. Thought he was almost invincible
RIP
From the Jeopardy! Twitter page:
“Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends. Thank you, Alex.”
RIP to the legend. He fought the good fight.
What is it that makes me very sad right now?
2020 continues to suck. ?
I’m crushed. I knew this was inevitable, but…
I’ve watched Jeopardy religiously since I was a kid and Art Fleming was the host. It won’t be the same.
“Jeopardy!” says Alex hosted episodes will air through December 25th. His last day taping in the studio was October 29.
I’ll take heartbroken for 1,000. My hero has passed.
@shellfell - me too - it was watching Art Fleming and Jeopardy that my grandmother, my mother and I would watch religiously, that stirred my love for words, reading and crossword puzzles. When my own D was born she knew her bedtime was “after Alex” and would never put up a fuss. She too became a voracious reader and lover of words. Thank you Art Fleming, Alex Trebek, and Jeopardy.
Jeopardy is the only show I regularly watch and I have for decades. I even tried out back in the late '80’s (didn’t make it) but Alex showed up in person at the tryout and that was a fun surprise.
Thanks for great memories, Alex. Rest in Peace.
My S19 is sad about this. We watch Jeopardy together.
I tried out twice. Once soon after it came back with Alex (didn’t make it), again this century (made it). The experience was one of the highlights of my life, even though I lost.
We used to have emojis available for use. If we still did, mine would be the single tear. Loved him.
We raised our kids on Jeopardy. We knew this day would come, but we are all so sad. He fought so hard, raised so much awareness, and was brave to the end. A life well lived is a life to be envied.
I knew this day was coming, but I’m still in shock. I’ve been a diehard fan since the days of Art Fleming. I had the privilege of attending 2 days of taping not that long ago. Alex’s sincere level of engagement with the players and the audience was amazing, even as he admitted he was in pain. It was fascinating to watch the Jeopardy machine in action. Clearly they’re a team who loves their jobs. It starts from the top.
I will savor the remaining episodes with Alex and wish his successor all the best.
It will be so odd watching tomorrow night.
It made me so sad. We actually don’t watch the show much, but when our daughter was on the show during college we watched the taping of that show (and 4 shows prior… 5 per day). Alex was so interesting when he chatted with the audience, answered question etc. He was an avid woodworker and talked about that a lot. He also talked about the declutter he was doing on his old tax paperwork. Such a wonderful host but so human too.
I was not ready for this… I spent almost every weekday afternoon watching Alex with my Grandma growing up… Jeopardy helped me make my high school and college Academic Quiz Bowl Teams. My daughter and I have watched Jeopardy since she was a little girl and she also made her College Academic team and recently took the test for the College Jeopardy Tournament. We have 47 Jeopardy episodes saved on the DVR right now because Jeopardy is something we still watch together when she is at home from college. RIP, Alex Trebek and thank you.
I am so sad to hear this. I knew it would eventually happen, but it just adds to how much 2020 sucks!
? ? One for you, @2VU0609, and one for me.
S and I have always loved watching this together. At some point, when S was in elementary school, the same episode played two times each day in our city. He and I would watch together in the afternoon. Then we would watch again in the evening with H. S would impress H with his ‘incredible knowledge’. It was our secret for many years.
